Fic: Say Goodnight, Not Goodbye (2/3)

Author’s Note: *requisite spoiler warning* Here begins my humble quest to plug a small handful of the million plotholes Into Failure gave us. When I wasn’t laughing in my seat during IF’s climactic scene between an OOC Jim and an ever more OOC Spock (Spock CRYING?? COME ON!!), I was wondering just how the hell I was expected to believe Kirk ( Read more... )

I don't know about righting all the wrongs (that would be a big damned list!), but I figured this was a good handful to pick on. I am still kind of irritated that, with all Pike meant to Kirk, we didn't get to see any of it on screen. Yeah, I know - blockbuster, blah, blah, snore, but really? Really?

To be honest with you, I do think that the writers made the correct choice in killing off Pike. It was pretty obvious to me that's what was going to be happening the moment I heard Greenwood reprised the role. There had to be motivation for Jim in this movie much like there was for Spock in the 2009 reboot. No, my issue with it was how it was handled as I've outlined repeatedly. I just don't get it. The writers and filmmakers definitely missed an opportunity there to exploit some good story telling there in favor of more visual effects.

I could write an entirely unnecessary dissertation here but considering it's THursday, my brain is absolutely and utterly dead and it's about 100 degrees in Minneapolis tonight, I will stick to saying thank you and yes, I do beta. :)

That was my first impression, too, after the initial shock, because I was not prepared. At all. Storywise and from a logical point of view, it made sense to "get rid of him". But emotionally--nooo... Not only because he's my favourite character. It was just a year after the Narada, after he'd been tortured, had to cope with the fallout from that (emotionally, physically, politically), learning to walk again, losing his ship. And not even a year later, they just kill him. From that point of view, it just seems so unfair. If I were him, strolling through the afterlife, I'd ask myself "Why all the hard work? Why did I even struggle? Better to die on the Narada than putting myself through this mess for a year for nothing." Huh... well. *breathes ( ... )
