I'm not sure how I feel about our debt-based currency but I am a bit suspicious that people creating debt seem to be among the richest people in our country.
People really do love to put a conspiracy spin on things like this but I agree that it's likely not a conspiracy but rather that this shows the weaknesses and exploits of a federal reserve system. I mean, the whole sub-prime mortgage crisis is largely based on the fact accountants can so easily manipulate the reserve system (at least, from what I understand)
Well, that and the fact that people were lending money to other people who did not have the means to repay it. And the people lending them the money were aware of this.
If you read the book Presidental Courage, one of the chapters talks about how Jackson refused to re-authorize the charter of the Second National Bank, forcing them to close.
He was a man who was fairly intelligent about finances.
