Nate concedes that this was the point, and the ache shifts to his chest, where it usually resides in Brad’s absence. This. This story was so lovely. It ached, but in a good way. And the fact that Brad's ringtone is Ice Ice Baby made me grin so widely. :)

"Ice Ice Baby" was definitely a success!

Super excited that this hit its mark; "ache" is pretty much how I wanted it to feel through most of it, because Nate is sort of feeling the same way, and feigning obliviousness. At least he figured it out eventually.

Thanks a lot for commenting; I'm glad you liked it :]

Every single word of this is perfect. And you've created this tone of longing with a hint of heartbreak that runs through the whole thing that is amazing.

That is an astounding compliment, and I'm very excited that that melancholic feeling bled throughout this piece. Thanks for liking and commenting.

Okay, that's awesome. You had me worried there for a moment, but then they ended up where they needed to be. Wonderfully satisfying. Kudos to you.

The tinny sound of Ice Ice Baby is muffled by Nate’s pocket, and he waits until he’s inside his front door before taking out his cell phone and sighing at the picture of Brad half-smirking from the screen.

I laughed ALOUD!

And you should feel loved, because he won’t stop asking why you’re not here.”

There’s an undertone to Brad’s words that Nate doesn’t miss; he wasn’t supposed to.

I SO love how they communicate by not communicating. This magnificently uses the things unsaid, both of them aware of it, but subtle enough to make you think. Beautifully done!

We saw a lot of their silent communication in GK, and now that they're stateside and out from under the watchful eye of an entire company of Marines, they can say what they're thinking. Except of course they don't, because they never worked on how to do that. I'm really excited that everything came through as intended, and that it makes sense to you the same way it did in my head :]

Lovely comment; THANK YOU!

This is great. I love all the little details and how, while they're totally IC, you really made them yours. Wonderful!

Thank you! I think kind of the whole point of fic isn't necessarily to just reinforce what we already know and think about the characters, but to give you something new to think about, some new facet that fits, but wasn't just given to us in the original context. Having gotten something like that across to the reader makes me feel very successful, indeed :]
