Anton Weiss in Cassville

There was another item in the map I found yesterday that is of interest to me. On one of the other sheets is a city map of Cassville, where my great great grandfather Anton Weiss operated a hardware store for close to 50 years.

Just as I was able to find Patrick Parker in Glen Haven, Anton Weiss store shows up in this map too:

Actually, looking at it again, I think I might have the wrong building for the current spot. It appears Arthur Street no longer exists, so when I went one block southeast from Jo Daviess, I got Denniston. There's what looks like a giant culvert where Arthur Street was on the map.

Just wanted to say I've been enjoying your genealogy posts. Cassville caught my attention, though. Around that same time (mid 1860's), I had ancestors (Friedleins, to be specific) in Guttenberg and Jefferson Township, Iowa, just across the river. I've seen Cassville mentioned in a few places in their records, and visited Guttenberg a few years ago. Wouldn't be surprised to find that your folks and my folks crossed paths at some point. Small world. :)

I stopped in Guttenberg very briefly last year. Anton Weiss' wife is Anna Clara Voigt. One of her nieces (Rosalie Zimmerman) married a fellow from Guttenberg and moved there. Alex Sullivan died shortly after they were married though. Rosalie remarried to a gentleman from South Dakota after that and moved there. (Then he died...)

Heya! I am tentatively planning a trip to the Guttenberg area mid-July and would be happy to do lookups on your folks while I'm digging around for my folks. Let me know if that's something you'd be interested in. :)
