My first ER trip

Well, this past weekend turned out quite more interesting than i planned. not in a good way. i got to visit the emergency room for the first time. fun fun!

it all started thursday, when i went to work as usual. Jude had gotten me some free krispy kreme donut coupons, so i stopped by and got 2 donuts and a milk. ate those in the car on the way to work, felt fine. after i got to work around 8, my stomach started hurting. i thought it was just because i don't usually eat that much junk for breakfast, and it would pass. after about an hour, i still felt like crap, so i decided to go home.

now, i thought it would just pass around mid-day, and i could get back to work after visiting the chiropractor. not to be. i did at least get home before i puked up the donuts, that's a good thing. from around 9:30 to 12, i puked up breakfast, and when that was done, dry heaved another 2 or 3 times. i did feel a little better after that though.

Around 12:30, jude came over. i was drinking some water to settle my stomach. pretty soon after she got there, i puked up the half a bottle of water. that's when i started to realize something was wrong. plus, not only was i puking now, but i added problems out the other end too. (i don't think i need to elaborate.) so there i was, losing liquids out both ends, and i started to think i might be in danger of dehydrating. so i called my doctor, and he was off for the day! but i made an appointment for 3:15 the next day anyway.

at about 2, it was clear i couldn't wait a day to see a doctor. so i got jude in the car, and drove myself to the emergency room. we got there, and waited. and waited. and waited. there was a lot of waiting. in between all the waiting, i was getting steadily worse. i kept running to the bathroom for one reason or another, none of them good. i had the worst dry mouth ever, and at one point my hands and feet started going numb, and i couldn't move them. it was pretty scary waiting for a bed to free up back in the ER.

finally, around 4:30, i got back to a bed. after more waiting, a nurse finally came by and gave me an IV and put me on fluids, which is what i needed really badly. i went through 2 bags (there's a liter of fluid in each bag), and they checked on me again. my blood pressure was still low, so they gave me a third bag. after that, my pressure was still low, but they figured i had enough fluids in me to be ok. this was a long process getting these fluids in me, and by the time i left, it was about 9:30.

Friday was pretty much a waste of a day. i went to target to pick up the prescription the ER doc had given me for nausea, then i took that, and passed out for the rest of the day. literally. i went to sleep around 10 AM, and didn't wake up for more than 15 or so minutes until 6 AM on saturday. Jude was a champ, and was by my side through all of this.

Saturday, i was feeling a little better, just still kinda weak. so i rested up, and laid around the house. Sunday, i was finally feeling better! and i was snowing, so Jude and I sat inside and opened the blinds to watch the snow fall. it was lots of fun. since i was feeling better, i went up to the mall and did some random other shopping with Jude. this also was the other fun part - i could finally eat! the only thing i had since thursday that was real food was a turkey sub from subway, super bland. other than that it was all water, gatorade, etc. so we stopped by zaxby's on the way home. it was so good.

and it was good, until about 8 on sunday night. then my stomach started hurting again, i guess not used to having food again yet. i took some of the anti-nausea medicine, and went to bed, since i had to work in the morning. Now it's monday morning, and i'm back at home, about to go to the doctor. I got up, still felt like crap, and puked in the shower getting ready this morning. no fun. now i'm just laying around, feeling bad, with that lovely taste of bile in the back of my throat. no amount of water is making it go away. i'm definitely sick of being sick at this point; i can't imagine the work piling up on me right now. bleh.
