Tolkien's elves frolicking in a 19th-century Norway parlor?
I saw Hedda Gabler at BAM tonight. It was a production by the Sydney Theatre Company and featured Cate Blanchett as Hedda and Hugo Weaving (of Matrix fame) as the judge. I am spoiled. I don't have to worry about where my next meal is coming from. I feel mostly safe (I do live in NY after all). I have a job. I can buy medications if I am ill. Toby Dawson won the men's mogul bronze last night. I was touched by his story. He was abandoned in Seoul, S. Korea; was adopted by a Colorado couple at age 3; had a hard time adjusting to his new life; but ultimately prospered. He is counselor for Korean adoptees and seems to be a stand-up guy. I've been listening to a lot of music and reading poetry. Yeah...it means that I am fixated and depressed. Anyway good things come from it because I come across lots of pretty things. "I want someone to call my own"
I saw Shopgirl last Friday. I think I cried from the beginning to end. It's sad. More so than the novella, it's simply about love and how incongruous that love between two people can be sometime, actually a lot of the time. The novella was more a May-December romance and the complications and implications of that. The movie struck a chord with me ( Read more... )
