Room 218, Thursday Afternoon

Jan 06, 2011 14:00

In a shocking turn of events that probably surprised absolutely no one, Karla was still in a fantastic mood. Honestly--and no disrespect meant to her boyfriend--most of her good mood stemmed from feeling free for the first time in a years. It was like a great weight had been lifted from her shoulders; the danger that had doggedly haunted her since ( Read more... )

"You-" Emma said, sticking her head around the door, "-were faaaar too chipper in our classes yesterday."

"Talk, before I go peeking on my own."

Did you think she wasn't going to notice, Karla? Really? Telepath.

Karla just gave Emma an innocent look. "Perhaps I was just happy to see that I shared yet another class with you, Emma darling? Who says there needs to be a better reason than that?"

Besides the psychic thread of *Eeeeeeeeeeeeeee!* being sent Emma's way.

"Liar liar pants on fire." Emma sang, inviting herself in and waltzing over to sit on Karla's bed. "Of course, having two classes with me in a day is fantastic, but your halo is slipping with that fib."

"I'll have you know my halo is staying right where it is," Karla said cheerfully. "I stuck it on quite firmly when I stole it from someone else."

She sat down next to Emma and just gave her a beatific smile. "So, about that pants rule..."

"Don't tell me you broke the pants rule," Emma groaned, flopping back and covering her face with a convenient pillow. "Do you know how HARD it is to lie to your cousin when he asks me things like, 'So, is Karla behaving?'"

"He knows already," Karla admitted, still smiling. "I went home and announced the fact that it will have been broken three days before we did. As was right and proper."

Got into something of a fight with Saetan about that, but he'd come around.

"Wait. Wait. You didn't just break the pants rule, but you BROKE THE PANTS RULE???" Emma shrieked, sitting up and throwing the pillow at Karla. "You were planning to break the pants rule, and you didn't tell me before now?"

"I barely told anybody!" Karla protested, holding up her hands to block the pillow. "Jaenelle to make the brew, Saetan because he would have skinned me alive if I told him afterwards, and then...Jono."

"You told Jono and not me?" Sorry, Karla, this was all about Emma right now, and she was going to grab another pillow to try and beat her Sister over the head. "Karla!"

"He needed to know!" Karla argued, in between getting buffeted with a pillow. "Raven was involved! I needed to make sure he was okay with that!"

Because that was a helpful argument, yes.

That was... really not helpful, actually. It was the opposite of helpful.

Genuine hurt flashed across Emma's face at the idea Raven had been involved somehow in the whole thing and Karla hadn't even told Emma, before she tried to bury it in more outraged playfulness and swung the pillow again.

"I don't want to hear another complaint about pants out of you for as long as I live, then," she replied. "Not when you're getting laid more than I am."

"Am not!" Karla protested, ducking again. "I've barely even seen Warren since we left the hotel on Tuesday!"

She reached up and tried to catch the pillow before it could descend again. "And Raven had to be involved," she added quietly. "If I wanted to have my Virgin Night with Warren and not some stranger 'Dite chose for me."

"Bullshit," Emma replied crisply, trying to wrestle the pillow away. "One sip of that love potion that got into the cast at Midsummer, and you wouldn't have panicked a bit; you'd be too busy snogging Warren to realize you were naked."

"Besides, I could have recommended Alex," she continued, shooting her a sly smirk. "He knows what he's doing with a virgin."

Which, yes, was a concession that Emma had been one upon arriving, and was probably an ego boost that Alex did not need whatsoever.

"I don't deal in love potions, Emma," Karla said, wrinkling her nose. She was holding tightly onto the pillow, though, so Emma was going to have to struggle. "They're dreadful things and I didn't need a foul up like the play to teach me that. And all the love in the world wasn't going to stop me from noticing pain."

She let go of the pillow she'd been holding so she could grab the one Ender had given her for Christmas. "Besides, I didn't want to have sex with someone else. I wanted Warren. Raven just made it possible that I could go to bed with him and still get up a witch."

Come on, Emma. You couldn't begrudge Karla that, could you?

Oh Karla, don't be silly. Emma could carry a grudge for almost anything! She was a Frost!

"Darling, pain can be managed with some of those lovely pills I swipe from Triela for my migraines, but I don't understand why you didn't say something," she sulked, giving a good yank to try and bop Karla over the head again. "I could have kept an eye on you without intruding."

Someone was a little jealous upset put-out at being left out of the loop. To put it mildly.

"Because I wasn't going into this thinking of it as the first time Warren and I got to sleep together," Karla said pointedly. "I was more thinking about whether or not I would come out the other side a witch. And keeping myself safe from the kinds of things that happen to Jaenelle. Because if you guys had been right and I had been kidnapped, all you would have rescued was a broken shell."

Now that it was over and Karla was safe, she could start thinking of it as their first time with all the requisite giggles and gossip. But up until then... "Does it help knowing that I threw up a few times while I was getting ready because I was so nervous?"
