"I'm here in Fandom, and... you're not." Dinah's bemusement was definitely audible. "Call me and tell me you're okay!"

The students at Xavier's were still buzzing around with the news of Magneto's latest attack when Karla's phone went off. Seeing the number, Karla facepalmed and stepped out of the common room to call Dinah back.

"Uhhh, kiss kiss?" she said as soon as Dinah answered. "Okay, so now I might even be in MORE trouble, huh."

"Ya think?" Dinah drawled back. "Where are you?"

"North, umm, Salem?" Karla offered. "Which might still be in New York?"

Karla sucked at American geography, okay? Or Earth geography in general.

"Is it still Monday there?"

"Nooo, it's Tuesday, I got in really late last night and just crashed in 'Dite's suite, then went looking for you," Dinah explained, then frowned. "Whose world are you in?" That name was familiar, but she couldn't remember why....

"Warren's," Karla said quietly. "He couldn't get back in touch his dad after all the worlds started coming back. Turns out that his dad's cure is being offered to the general public and a mutant terrorist is not best pleased about that development. So we're...here. Trying to find out where Warren's dad is."

"Wuh-oh. Wow. Okay, tell Warren if he needs help to just yell, okay?" A mutant or meta-terrorist, probably blaming Warren's dad... Not good. At all. "Do you guys have a plan yet?"

Karla shook her head, which was very useful over the phone. "Not yet. We just heard the news less than an hour ago. Bobby--this world's Bobby who is nothing like the proper Bobby--came in and told us what happened. Some kid named Pyro used his pyrokinetic powers to explode a center in New York that was curing people. And a few minutes after that, Magneto came on and gave a little speech saying that no one was safe for as long as the cure was still being offered. Except other mutants, so long as they joined him or stayed out of his way."

"Oh, for Christ's sake. What a mess." Dinah put her head in her hands, eyes closed. "How did they not see that coming? How did they not expect how this guy would react, or the ones like him?"

Karla's voice was quiet and she glanced around to make sure no one was listening. "I don't think he was thinking about all that," she said. "He made it for Warren."

"Oh," Dinah said, sounding like she'd been punched. "Oh, man does that have to hurt ..." She bit her lip, then said quietly, "Are you guys sure you don't need back-up right now? I can yell at Portalocity. They're overdue anyway."

Karla snorted. "Good luck getting them to do anything right," she said. "Two portals going to the same place might be more than they can handle."

Of course there was the other big reason. "I'll see if he'd like the back up? But...I don't think so. Things are tense enough with us just being here. And with just me being here."

"Yeah, I would guess," Dinah said, sounding glum. She shook her head. "Check in tomorrow, okay? Or I swear, I'll let Barbara inject a GPS inter-universal tracker in your, somehow."

Karla gave a weak chuckle at that. "I don't know if I can," she said. "It's only been a few hours since I left Fandom. I don't actually know when tomorrow for you begins here."

"Aww, crap. I hate Universe Lag." Dinah brooded for all of an instant, then said with determination, "I'll be in Fandom on Friday for the holiday program. If you can make it, I'll see you there. If you can't... I'll see you soon."

"If I can't make it for that, I'll haul whatever's left of me after Jono murders me and come to New Gotham," Karla promised. "Darkness, Dinah, I'm sorry. But Warren was so worried and things between us so awful I just jumped before I thought."
