When Raven received word that Karla wanted to see her, she of course quickly made her way to the Queen's chambers. She'd noticed Karla seemed to be in some discomfort over the past several days -- as if you could hide that from an empath, Karla -- and she worried there'd been something more serious than bruises that she hadn't healed after the assassination attempt. Her judgment that day had, after all, been questionable.
"Is everything all right, Karla?" she asked as she entered the room.

"Umm..." Karla was still on her hands and knees, scrubbing at the rug. Look, it was easier to clean it up than explain. Or worse, deal with all the gossip and speculation that would come along with it. "Not exactly. I need to ask you for a favor. Can you teleport us to the Hall? I think Jaenelle's back at the Hall for a bit, rather than at the Keep."

Things seemed to finally be calming down a little. Warren was only slightly less exhausted, emotionally, than he'd been when he'd dragged his sorry self home, but he was whole and most of the glass and other assorted shrapnel had been removed one way or another, so at least he was in top form, physically.
It did help, too, that the number of people wanting to throttle him was significantly lower now than it had been several days ago, as well. And that Karla was, in fact, here and alive and safe, so it was one less worry for him to carry around with him while he went about his day-to-day.
Dinner tonight was something fairly simple - consisting of a hearty stew that Cook sometimes made for those who were ailing - and the company? Warren approved of the company. He gave Karla a tentative smile as he prodded a piece of carrot around in his bowl.

Understatement was strong with them both, really.
"It's a lot all at once," Warren replied, shrugging his shoulders faintly as he set his spoon down and sighed. "The assassination attempt, the... the other thing. But it's starting to calm down now, so I'll be fine, I think. I do wish there was at least one survivor from that pack of jackals that tried to take you out, I guess."

"Of course I can," she said, crouching down beside Karla. "But you are not well, are you? You should allow me to examine you first."

"You've been quiet today."

And look. A pun! Oh she was on a roll!
Mother Night, she'd only known for a few hours and was already losing her damn mind.
"How're you doing? I know you're still troubled."
More of that understatement thing again.

It would have made things much easier.
