On January 25, 2015 (well, the Kaeleeran equivalent thereof), Karla and Warren welcomed their daughter, Kayla Kathryn Worthington, to the world. She was born weighing 6lbs and 9 oz and was 20.01 inches long. Mother and daughter are doing just fine and will be up for receiving visitors sometime next week.Attached to the email were roughly thirty ( Read more... )

Dinah stopped bouncing along rooftops long enough to check that email.

The EEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! was heard by two cats, a dog who started barking, Oracle and Huntress, and two prospective muggers.

YAY BABY YAY BABY KAYLA YAY oh she's so pretty! So cute!!!!

Are you okay? Is Warren okay? BABY!

I'm tired as Hell but getting better. It took EIGHTEEN HOURS. EIGHTEEN. And Jono had to play FUCKING BELLS through the last, like, five of them. He lives, but only because he bailed off to the island. Smart male. Warren is also fine, but I think his expression is set permanently to pole-axed. With a side order of happy-dopey-stupid. I hear that's pretty common for new dads, tho.

awww! ahahahaaha

Kayla Kathryn!

I am sorry it took 18 hours holy crap I don't want to do anything I like for that long.

Karla got all the meds or all the booze for this.

Bells?!

You're only properly Cockney if you're born within the sound of the Bow Street Bells. This explanation required angry-typing, oh yes. So that asshole took a recording and PLAYED IT ON LOOP just to make sure she'd hear them. And one of the Healers had THE NERVE to say that it was better Kayla hear that than the sound of her mother cussing.

EIGHTEEN HOURS. I WAS ALLOWED TO SWEAR.

And Kathryn is Warren's mom's name. A lot of K's, I know, but it made him happy & was prettier than a bunch of other names we were tossing around.

Karla laughed and took another picture of Kayla with her phone to send to Priestly. She's in one now! And was wrapped in another just minutes after she was born! Best gift is best.

Priestly sent back a picture of himself doing victory arms. Then a picture of him holding Stevesie's paws in the air in an approximation of victory arms. And one of Tia looking bemused with her arms in the air while Mark rolled his eyes in the background.

the new gotham Priestly residence says 'yay baby' also I win at baby presents!

Hi Stevesie!! Hi Tia! Hi guy whose name I don't remember! Halloween had been awhile ago, okay? Especially for folks living in Kaeleer's double-time. And who'd just had a baby. Have they seen all the baby pictures yet?

Who didn't want to look at a ton of newborn baby pictures of people they barely knew?

And you'll come up to visit, right? Put that degree you're going for to work?

Congratulations! That's wonderful news. Should I send celebratory sushi and sake along?

Ender would say he was kidding... if he thought Karla would refuse.

Karla would have to be an IDIOT to refuse. And, contrary to Jono's current opinion of her IQ, Karla was most certainly not an idiot.

You're lucky you're in space because I could kiss you for that suggestion. And thank you! Isn't she lovely?

That was the mommy-brain talking. No newborn was actually all that attractive.

She's beautiful, Ender wrote. You're both in good health?

But then he was the kind of person who thought all new life was beautiful, so it was probably better not to judge by his standards.

I'll pick something up here and send it via multiversal express.

We are! She was born with her mother's healthy lungs (look, that's diplomacy-speak!) and while I was pretty wiped afterwards, I've spent a ridiculous amount of time eating and sleeping. Just got off of mandatory bed rest that served literally no purpose other than to aggravate me.

Sure, pregnancy and giving birth were always dangerous to a dark Jeweled witch, but if there had been a problem, Raven would have taken care of it!

Oooh, ALIEN sushi. My Healers will throw fits. SEND DOUBLE!

And a little bit later, a message was forwarded from Sila:

"Sleep little babyoh, sleep until you waken.
When you grow you'll see the world, if I'm not mistaken.
Kiss a lover, dance a measure, find your name and buried treasure."

This is lovely, thank you! One of the maids wants to know if she can embroider that and place it above Kayla's crib?

I can't claim credit for it, it's an old Earth lullaby (and is probably longer than just that bit, but that's all of it that I know). But I doubt the author would object!

And later: I found a little more to it (working in a library has it's advantages):Face your life
Its pain,
Its pleasure,
Leave no path untaken.

Thank you so much! Here's hoping Kayla grows up to love music as much as you do, Robin!

Not that there was much fear she wouldn't, not with her Uncle Jono nearby.
