The Estate, Sidra, Glacia, Friday (Fandom Time)

May 13, 2016 12:18

It was a beautiful day in early fall, the kind of day where warm sunshine poured over the land like honey, saved from being overly warm by a refreshing breeze. The leaves had started to turn colors on the edges and the air smelled green as the crops in the fields readied themselves for harvest. Glacian winters were long and bitterly cold, the ( Read more... )

Lord, it was strange to be back here. It had been a while, and Jono was still a little twitchy about setting foot in Glacia, if only for fear that somebody would recognize him as the General and he'd have to put that hat on and play the role.

At least on the estate itself, he didn't have to be much of anything but himself. And he could go around with his wrappings off because if anybody did make a big deal of it, there would be hell to pay.

... Besides, there were babies to meet. Meet, and possibly attempt to smuggle out for ice cream.

Or just smuggle out in general, but he figured he wouldn't get terribly far with that one, no.

It was weird to be back here, all the same. Sort of like an odd, temporary homecoming. He was putting forth a good effort to not look as awkward as he felt, looking around the estate to see what had changed since he'd left last.

[OOC: Oh god, the biggest SP clause ever tonight because of course Dad wanted to run a murder mystery party on Friday the 13th.]

You didn't have to be telepathic to interpret that look - you just had to know Jono.

"We're leaving with precisely the number of children we came with," Hannibal said firmly.

Which, for the record, was none, in case Jono had forgotten.

//Precisely that number? Did you remember to take inventory before we came?//

But look at them, Hannibal! Look at them!

"I did," Hannibal answered. "It took no time at all." On account of there being no children.

If a single one of these children tried to climb into her lap and got their sticky fingers on her nice white linen suit, Emma was going to find a contraceptives company to invest in. Heavily.

Some things never changed: Emma Frost's inability to cope with small children was one of them.

"I was promised honey-pears," she warned, toe-ing off her heels under the table as she reached for her teacup. "You better deliver, Glacia."

"Emma." Hannibal greeted her with a little bow. "It's good to see you. And I should thank you for your recommendation of jewelers."

"Doctor Lecter," Emma replied with a smile. "I'm so glad that worked out for you. Have you tried embarking on getting Jono a proper suit, yet?"

She was coming along to that fitting with popcorn, yes.

"We've made most of the decisions; the fitting is still to come."

Could she maybe bring that telekinetic glove and hold him still for it?

Hannibal smiled. "You'll be pleased to know that neither of us is wearing white, which leaves the color open for our guests."

It had been a while since Leto handwavily due to him not being around last visited Karla. Not that he felt he needed an excuse, but three reasons definitely called for a party.

He had brought Hania with him, and the girl looked around with curiosity. This place was certainly different from home.

It was lush and green, at least right now, when it wasn't covered with snow. And there were several small streams and even a pond where Karla had gotten into a lot of trouble as a small girl. So, yes, 'different' was a way to describe it.

"Leto!" Karla's grin was almost incandescent when she spotted him. He and Kennedy were two of the invitees that she hadn't been sure she'd see today. "Handsome as ever, no surprise there. But is this lovely girl Hania? Already? Hell's fire and Mother Night, Leto, I refuse to believe she's this old already!" Karla held out her hands to the young girl in welcome. "Hello, darling," she greeted. "Did your father tell you about me?"

"It is good to see you, Karla," He said, returning the grin. "And you grow more beautiful every time I see you."

He didn't mind Hania getting more of Karla's attention than him though. The girl took Karla's outstretched hands and smiled brightly. "Of course he did. You gave me my first knife." She actually wore the little pendant today. It had been a most fitting gift for a baby.

Leto would get a proper greeting in a moment, but--look at Hania! She was so big now!

"I did," Karla said. "Because why not combine something beautiful with something useful and deadly?" she asked. "I learned that from watching your aunt."

All three words described Ghanima to a T and even though Karla had long been over her crush on her teacher at that point, they hadn't become any less true.

"Besides," she added in a stage-whisper. "I wanted to be the one to give you the best gift and everybody said I wasn't allowed to give you a baby sandworm."

That...hadn't actually been on the list of possible baby gifts. Cross her heart, Leto.

Jack hadn't been in Glacia in years, it felt like -- but if a new baby wasn't a good enough reason to make the trek, what was? Especially when a certain weekend when teenagers from the future came to visit suggested this particular baby might be a rather intimate companion of his own hypothetical future daughter.

He put on a crisp collared shirt and a pair of khakis and sat at one of the tables, and tried to remind himself not to eat too many little lemon cakes.

"It's been a long time," Leto greeted Jack, happy to see him. "Do you visit Karla often?"

Hania had quickly disappeared to seek out the company of the other children, so he had no blue eyed girl in tow.

"It has, hasn't it?" Jack grinned at Leto. "And no, it's been a while. I don't think I've been here since Kayla was new. What have you been up to?"

"Nothing unexpected," Leto replied, smiling back. He assumed Jack wasn't interested in the political events of his universe. "My sister is home for the summer, and I think Hania will make the most of the time with her aunt." He nodded towards his daughter who was reaching for a cookie a few tables away.

"What about you?"

Hannibal was pleased to be visiting Karla, and had a nice little package of herbs and spices for Ermengarde to play with, along with tactile toys for distracting the children.

He was enjoying both the autumn weather and the chance to not be overdressed for the setting.

Leto found himself standing next to a man he didn't recognize, but from whose style of dress he judged not to be from Karla's world.

"Are you visiting to?" he asked, smiling. "Clearly Karla has friends I haven't met."

Which wasn't surprising, really.

"I am." Hannibal held his hand out with a smile. "Dr. Hannibal Lecter; I teach at Fandom."

Leto shook his hand. "Leto Atreides. I was a student there, at the same time as Karla."
