The Queen's Chambers, Sidra, Glacia, Sunday Afternoon (Fandom Time)

Apr 06, 2014 16:05

It had been a long and miserable two weeks. Just ask anyone who had had the misfortune of dealing with their Queen. Karla was a terrible patient; somehow managing to be a tyrant even when she was coughing so hard she could barely speak. It was a good thing her nasty chest cold had also kept her asleep a great deal, or it was possible she would have ( Read more... )

It was... rather rare for her phone to ring.

She answered it without looking at the number, half-hoping and half not daring to hope that it would be Tseng. Or Reno.

"Rosalind."

Sorry, Rosalind. It was a Karla with a nasty cough, a long afternoon of nothing, and access to a phone.

"Hello Rosalind," she said. "It's Karla. Do you have a few minutes to talk? I know how crazy the island's been recently. Wanted to touch base, see if everything was getting back to normal. Give you a chance you complain about wearing a kilt."

Totally not making sure Rosalind was okay! Of course she was okay, she was a Turk. But, y'know, sometimes some people just needed to talk! After things happened!

It wasn't Karla's fault that Rosalind's heart sunk at the sound of her voice.

"You sound terrible," Rosalind said mildly. "Should you be calling people, right now? Resting would be better for you."

Sorry Karla, Rosalind was a big sister under all the Turk-ness.

"Though I concede I can't stop you. I have time to talk. Though the kilt is a bit out of my usual style."

But she looked really, really good in it, with a white dress shirt. That made it hard to complain too much about it.

"I've been resting for the past two weeks," Karla whined complained whined. "I dun wanna rest anymore. I want to talk to people who are leading much more exciting lives than I am by virtue of them being able to leave their beds."

"Oh thank GOODNESS!" Momoko's relief was obvious when she picked up the phone. Caller I'd was wonderful. Momoko's face peered into the vid-phone anxiously. "What HAPPENED?!?!?!? You were gone and portalocity said I couldn't have a portal and no one answered their phones and I was so worried and even Dinah didn't know what was wrong and then SHE went all weird and Jono lost his head and I hoped it was just stuff with Fandom and not some horrible plot by Hobart and the Council...?"

And better get a response in there, Karla, while Momoko takes a second to breathe.

[slow cause am at mom's, but wanted to get this in!]

Was a fit of hacking a decent response? Because that was what Karla had for you Momoko. A nice, long coughing fit and then a raspy, "...No?"

[Yay! And no worries about slow!]

"No?"

Momoko frowned at the phone. "What part is no? And why are you coughing?"

"Not a plot by Hobart and the Dark Council," Karla said, taking a long sip of water. "I did get a cold, though. One of those stupid summer colds that just makes everything terrible."

Stupid lungs.

"How'd you fare? It sounds like you were the only normal one of the group."

Dinah'd had a week to deal, so, yay, PHONE.

"You're alive! And awake! Are you still sick, though?"

[sp is yay, if you are up for that.]

"I'm on the mend," Karla said grumpily. "Which means that I'm feeling just enough better to be completely aware of how miserable I feel."

Which was why she was calling you now, Dinah. For pettings and sympathy and entertainment, because she'd worn out the patience of everyone else around her.

[ALWAYS up for SP, bb!]

"Ohh, man. I'm sad to hear that." There might be a thread of amusement in there, maybe. Just maybe. "Warren didn't mention any specifics, just that you were stuck in bed when I texted him. And most of what happened the last month. Raven didn't mention anything at all."

She was having 'fun'. AKA, a bad boy fix.

"Yeah, she was in a pretty huge hurry to leave," Karla admitted. "I've forbidden anyone from telling her I'm sick, just so she won't come rushing back here to fix me. I figure if it's bad enough she's voluntarily leaving, it's best she stays until she feels better about coming back."

Karla blinked. That was not the hello she was expecting.

"Twenty-one?"

"Oh! That's not that long at all. Sorry, last time I couldn't reach you it was 20 years before I could get through. Everything okay? I heard about the Unicorns, I'm sorry I couldn't help."

"Yeah, this time the trouble was on our end, not yours," Karla said. "It was Fandom being Fandom again."

She paused. "Mother Night, how old are you now?"
