Mathematics of Nazism

I was thinking about Godwin's Law a little while ago, which says that the probability of Hitler or Nazis being used in an argument online approaches 1 over time, and realized that even though it's meant as a semi-joke, the math is flawed. Over time, the probability of anything being mentioned approaches 1, so the definition needs to be refined. ( Read more... )

I don't think pulling Hitler or Nazis into an argument shows that the arguer is a jerk, I think it's just demonstrative of poor arguing skills, which are quite abundant on the internet. Since it's generally accepted that Hitler was not on the side of right, there's a tendency to think that if you've managed to compare the person you're fighting with to Hitler, then you've won the argument.
