My Best and Worst Music of 2005 List

Jan 03, 2006 04:05

I only listened to two albums released in 2005, because of this and because I can't sleep I thought it would be appropriate for me to create my own best and worst music of 2005 lists.

In no particular order,

BEST OF 2005

  Gorillaz: Demon Days

This is the only album in 2005 that I listened to and didn't hate, in fact I kind of liked it. Sure Dan the Automator didn't work on it but it still had good bits.

Madonna: Confessions on A Dance Floor

Like I said I haven't listened to any of these albums except for the two exceptions but I do know that Madonna sampled Abba on this album and it is for this reason alone that she has made my best of list.

Wednesday 13: Transylvania 90210: Songs of Death, Dying, and the Dead

I can't quite say exactly why I like this album, but I think it has something to do with the fact that it made me laugh or it could be the honesty. I have no doubt in my mind what this album probably sounds like and I appreciate that.

Mudvayne: Lost and Found

I'm just glad Mudvayne is still making music unless they've washed off the make up and shaved their facial hair. If so, please put this on my worst of list.

John Coltrane: One Down, One Up: Live at the Half Note

I'm still amazed when dead people release new albums. How John Coltrane managed to make this and another album with Thelonious Monk in 2005 remains a mystery.

Test Icicles : For Screening Purposes Only

Though I don't get the joke, I still like the fact that they tried to make a pun out of their name.

Ringo Starr: Choose Love

Ringo, I choose you! Not only are you a good dancer but you're also the last living Beatle I like.

Monkeypox: Hey! That's MY Wife. Get Your Own.

I don't get it. I had a hard time deciding which list to put this on, so I decided to put it on the shorter one.

Robbie Williams: Intensive Care

How it is possible for anyone to look this cool, I don't know. It must have something to do with the fact that he's British.

Colder: Heat

If Cold is good than I can only assume that Colder must be ever better. (See Cold below.)

Worst of 2005

  Mercury Rev: The Secret Migration

This was the other album I heard in 2005. Everything about this album was anticlimactic and down right mediocre. I liked Mercury Rev too but now I could care less.

Morrissey: Live at Earls Court

Look at this fucker. Who does he think he is? The suicidal Frank Sinatra? I wish him, his stupid face, and his silly voice would just die already.

Vashti Bunyan: Lookaftering

Other than the fact that she has a funny name, I can't think of any reason why she's become such a folk legend. Everybody talks about how amazing her voice was and blah blah blah. If you ask me her voice isn't that special, her songs are boring, and I don't care if it's been 35 years since she last recorded an album. She wasn't that spectacular then and unless she's started making hip hop, I'm not too curious to hear what she sounds like in 2005.

Weezer: Make Believe

Dear Weezer, please stop making music. Thanks. Love, Jonathan

Bloc Party: Silent Alarm

You misspelled "block"

The Decemberists: Picaresque

When I heard you were from Portland I wasn't surprised. If Ian and Mark hate you so much that's good enough for me.

Sleater-Kinney: The Woods

There's a reason why nobody cares about Olympia WA anymore.

Petra Haden: Petra Haden Sings: The Who Sell Out

An acappella version of the Who Sell out. If the Swingle Singers were doing it I might be interested.

Bjork: Drawing Restraint 9

Good lord, what is going on here? I hope that isn't permanent.

Reel Big Fish: We're Not Happy 'til You're Unhappy

They used to be so happy. How did they become so bitter?

Cold: A Different Kind of Pain

If only you had named your band "Coldest".
