Christopher Reeve died yesterday (Saturday) at age 52. He had sudden cardiac arrest, then went into a brief coma. It sounds like the illness was completely sudden. Just a week ago, he was speaking at a rehab home. Check this out, from MSN:

I thought he was a great champion of stem-cell research. I am all for it, even though I'm pro-life. If done properly, it'll improve the quality of life exponentially for millions without just needlessly slaughtering fetuses and all that happy jazz. RIP Reeve.

I'm kind of split on the issue. Not stem cell research, but Christopher Reeve. We both know that there's no way he would have championed his cause if he hadn't been suffering from it himself, which kind of makes me think that he's a selfish twat. On the other hand, he did do a lot of good. I think his motivations outweigh his actions, in this case. (Besides, and I know I am a Horrible Person for saying this, but it's his own stupid fault that he got paralyzed to begin with. If he'd been riding correctly he wouldn't have been thrown from his horse.)

Moving on - did you say that electrode treatment allows paraplegics to regain control of their bodies? I have a friend who's paraplegic so I'm always on the lookout for news.

That's very true, however we could say that about pretty much anyone who champions for any cause. It's usually because they or someone close to them is affected by it that they want to help.

I agree completely with farebellafigura, although like gracewanderer I have also thought to myself that he did have a hand in his own accident. Of course, I have no right to make this judgement until I know whether he was riding around regularly or doing crazy stunts.
