heya, i had a look and saw some interesting monitors but it's all gobbledigook to me... However the more i read the more i learn, i guess, so i'm going through the site and writing down anything that looks decent.
Thanks for that site! I noticed they do a pixel check too, which is good i think, although i read somewhere that if a company offer pixel checks, always have it, otherwise the ones that don't pass pixel check get palmed off onto the people who... erm don't have it. Or something.
http://scan.co.uk all the fucking way. Always deliver on time, most stuff is in stock, the staff are friendly and know their shit. Had a REAL low rate of duff shit from them too, which is more than can be said for SOME online retailers.
Just looking at that monitor now. Does it have a dvi thingy? it just says d-sub which, i don't know what that is to be honest.
How's the ghosting? Do you play games on it?
I was looking into these widescreen jobbies, but although they look super-smashing-great etc, they worry me slightly. I mean, does that mean i have to make everything wide?
Although one widescreen monitor, vs 2x normal lcd monitors. hm.
I guess if i allocated 150 each per monitor, that's 300 to spend on one wide-screen thing. Bleh i dunno. It's confusing.
As with everything, there is a cost. LCD displays have a tendency to be clearer, slimmer, cooler (both looks and temperature) and use less energy than CRT's. As a cost, they're not as vibrant, have a smaller viewing angle, fixed resolution and are slower switching from white to black than CRT's. This is down to how they produce the image on the screen
( ... )
CRT's can be very crisp, I just think we need to adjust yours better to your sight.
As for your system, it's actually OK, because you have an Athlon 64 and a reasonable amount of RAM. Your graphics card, as ever, is your weak point. Though I still love the Geforce 4 and still think of it as an amazing card, given that the Geforce 8 is due out soon, you can tell it's getting on a bit. My strong recommendation is the Geforce 6600GT or any of the 6800 series graphics cards. There are cut down ones of the latter for quite good money now.
By the way, the 4GHz chips are Pentium 4's which don't have the same instructions per cycle ratio as the A64's. By that reckoning you're only 1.2GHz behind.
I don't know much about LCDs. I like my monitors with good old-fashioned radiation. Nothing tells me that I am enjoying my gameplay quite like my retinas burning.
