I don't think that it was intended as hopeless. I think it was a visual of your internal. Especially having read your other post. War in dreams usually represents chaos and your need for assertiveness. Death usually represents change. Where as Nazis often represent oppression and a force you can't reason with. Which makes sense. Being defeated indicates the position you feel like you've been put into. Digging in dreams usually is about self analysis, trying to get to the root of yourself or issues with yourself. It's an introspection

I just thought of something but it might only be relevent for me, I don't know. But when I was on depression meds, everyone told me I had a chemical imbalance and that was why I was violent and angry and self deprovating and everything else. But as it turned out it was my environment that kept me on edge and continually made me act out in this way. When that environment changed, I changed. And what I was inside came out. And anyone who knew me before can note a massive change in even being around me. The entire air of me. I think a lot of people see that in Poe as well. Current environment has an even stronger hold on us than any past. Sometimes we aren't the ones with the mental problems, we're normal, it's the rest of the world that's lost perspective.
