There are 40+ quails, on average. There were more there too, I just couldn't get them all in the same picture before they ran to another part of the yard. They're double kooky in high winds. XD
I'm almost 99% certain he's a Cooper's Hawk. He might be a Sharp-Shinned Hawk - the two are virtually identical but for size and Hawky here definitely weighs more than the 150g Sharp-Shinned average. I have pictures from last fall of him eating a pigeon smack in the middle of the lawn. He really doesn't go hungry around here XD
Tons of magpies today (so one would think there was carrion) but no buzzards or ravens or crows... O_o Magpies are like the lookey-loos of the bird-world, I think? XDD
Hope you're home safe and sound by now too!! *hugs back*
Quails are super observant - they always flip out and take off when Hawky is around!! XDD
Thank you! *hugs* It was scary but we were prepared!! Some people weren't ): Have a co-worker who lost everything D: But she and her husband and her cats are okay, and that's what really matters.

Mr. Hawk sure is awesome. :D Do you know what type of hawk he is? He was probably stalking the fish. Or the quails. XD

And so many quail!
You are very, very lucky, both for all your birdy friends, and that the fire missed you! *HUGS!*
Yeah, your box didn't go out before I left for PA. I'll get it sent when I get home, as soon as the bank lets me have my money again.
