< Act 1-15 >

[We're back to Richala Rose where a man stands vigil at the edge of town.]

Guardhouse Man: The Drifter attack force is back from Calulma Keep!
Stronach's squadron has returned! Guess it's mission accomplished!

[A large group of Drifters enters the town. Clarissa, Labyrinthia and Tony look on from afar.]

Labyrinthia: So these are the Richala Rose Drifters... Look at them! They've been battered. It must have been a tremendous struggle for the keep.
Clarissa: Fighting the government of Elesius, to save its own people... Let's go talk to them once things have settled down.

[The player regains control.]

(Shop)
Orvan the Clerk: Richala Rose escaped disaster there, and it's all thanks to you. I think I owe you a word of thanks or two.
Orvan the Clerk (Talk): Stronach's army is resting in the cottage near the edge of town. If you need him, perhaps it'd be best to wait a little while.
---
Bamburgh (typoed Daniel): Sounds like Stronach's plan went off without a hitch. Not too many casualties, either.
I was pretty panicked when the town got invaded, but all's well that ends well, I guess.
---
Kurt the Drifter: My comrades who went to Calulma Keep came back with armloads of war spoils, they say. Wonder if they found those new ARMs, though...

(Synth. Shop)
Martilo III: We'd best have strong weapons at hand so we won't be so flustered next time this happens... Yes, that'd be the best thing...
---
Vigorous Man: Calulma Keep has fallen, and Richala Rose still stands...!
In other words, we won. I think it's safe to say the regional Martial Guard will be withdrawing pretty quickly after this.
---
Mist the Drifter: Half of the Calulma Keep invading party stayed behind to search the place afterward. They'll be back in Richala Rose once they're done.
It'd be great if they find some useful equipment or information... The battle's only going to get tougher from here on out.

(Quarry)
Wistful Woman: Calulma Keep wasn't originally an Elesian citadel, you know.
It was a castle from an unknown, long-lost nation, one that fell in an ancient age of upheaval. Elesius simply fixed it up for its own use.
---
Nostalgic Man: This invasion may have been a success, but it's what comes next that's the problem.
Our nemesis is not the Martial Guard, but the Kingdom of Elesius that lies behind them. They're a monstrous foe... I can't say I'm optimistic.

(Bar)
Drifting Barkeep: The Drifters did us good, but you guys fought just as bravely as they did. What'll it be? It's on the house today.
---
Injured Drifter: I could have fought alongside Stronach's crew if I hadn't gotten myself hurt beforehand... That's my only regret.
...Listen, Princess. Once they're all rested up from the battle, go talk to Stronach and his army for a bit.
I'm sure they'd be trustworthy allies in any battle that may lie ahead.
---
Daniel (yellow !): Well, we've finally done it. Half a year of fighting and countless waves of Guard attacks, and we have finally overcome!
We couldn't have done it without Stronach... All those Drifters in the Guard acting like Despots, and here he is... I don't know how to thank him enough.

[Out in the town, Clarissa meets up with Ragnar.]

Clarissa: Look how everyone is working together to protect their town... That unity is what gave them the power to drive back the Martial Guard.

[Ragnar folds his arms.]

Ragnar: It really does surprise me.
Ragnar: ...
Ragnar: Not the villagers who went off to attack the fort, but the people of Chevalet Blanc, who didn't flinch at risking their own lives in defense of the town.
Clarissa: What do you mean?
Ragnar: Are you really the princess of Elesius?
Clarissa: --!
Ragnar: Sorry. But I had do ask.
Ragnar: I understand that as the princess of Elesius, you were leading Chevalet Blanc in a battle against the usurpers on the Council.
Ragnar: But if that's the case, why fight to defend this little town?
Ragnar: It should be obvious that your best hope of retaking the capital is marching there as quickly as possible.
Clarissa: ...
Ragnar: But it looks to me more like you're fighting for the people of Elesius, rather than the country itself.
Ragnar: Indeed, you seem perfectly willing to destroy what Elesius has become.
Ragnar: ...

[He looks at her.]

Ragnar: Who are you, really? And what are you trying to do?
Clarissa: ...
Clarissa: I... I'm...

[Felius runs up to them.]

Felius: The enemy is upon us! There's a band of zombie soldiers right outside of town!
Felius: They've broken into groups and are coming this way. They must be under the control of the Martial Guard survivors...

[Clarissa is shocked.]

Clarissa: Stronach and his men have just returned from attacking the fort. They won't be ready to deploy again!
Clarissa: Let's leave the town to them, and stop the enemy here. Get ready, everyone!
Ragnar: I'll go too. Believe it or not, I enjoy sticking my nose into other people's battles just as much as you do.

[They run off. Upon leaving the town, a link is formed to Quarry of Desire, marked with a red !. As the party enters, they come across a group of Drifters, but they're completely greyscale.]

Ragnar: That can't be... No... Don't do this to me again!
Clarissa: An army of undead...and yet, they look just as they did when alive...
Labyrinthia: That may be the case, but it's plain to see how they've changed... I'm afraid I fear the worst.
Ragnar: No time to hesitate--we'll have to bury them for good. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust... That's all we can do for them now!

=D.E.R.=

Labyrinthia: Let's take a look at the Tactical Map we'll be fighting on.
Labyrinthia: We'll be starting here...
Labyrinthia: And the enemy line looks like this.
Labyrinthia: The so-called "undead" require special attention... Even if you defeat them once, there's a chance that they will revive themselves on the spot.
Attempting to overpower them with pure force will ultimately prove a fool's errand, I believe.
Labyrinthia: Instead, the Sacred Slayer's "Sanctify" ability should prove to be effective.
Sacred Slayers aren't known for their stellar offense, but against undead, they're the strongest we've got. Know your units, and use them to their utmost.

Ragnar: I knew it... It's just as it was before... Is this some kind of curse on me?!

[When one enemy is left...]

-Reinforcements appeared!-

[The battle ends when all enemies have been defeated.]

Ragnar: ...
Clarissa: Ragnar, are you all right? Your face has gone pale...

[An Enigmancer runs up to them.]

Stronach: No! Stop!! Those...those are my--

[He sees the corpses on the ground.]

StronacH: ...I'm too late...? No... Dammit...
Levin: What's going on?!
Stronach: Those...they were in our troop...
Ragnar: You must be mistaken. Those are the enemies that attacked us!
Stronach: I'm the one who's mistaken?! How the hell would strangers like you know anything about it!
Clarissa: He's telling the truth. They attacked us as soon as we arrived...
Stronach: That's impossible! They were part of the town's militia!
Stronach: After they finished searching Calulma Keep, they were supposed to head straight back here...
Stronach: They were with us until just a few hours ago! How could this have happened?!
Clarissa: ...
Stronach: I suppose the least I can do is take of these new ARM models we found as a keepsake...

[He picks up a black ARM.]

Ragnar: ...! That ARM!

[Ragnar becomes angry.]

Ragnar: Let me see that!

[He tears the ARM out of Stronach's hand and crushes it in his grip.]

Clarissa: Wha--?!
Stronach: My keepsake...! What are you doing?!
Ragnar: Don't you see that you've bitten into a poisoned apple?! Where did you get that?!
Stronach: ...
Ragnar: Damn...

[Ragnar walks off.]

-Council Chamber-

Weisheit: The poison has been laid.
Charlton: Then all that's left is to wait for it to find its target...

[Rupert walks in with his usual smirk.]

Rupert: It's not right for grown men to be gettin' together and holdin' secret powwows. Makes it look like you're plannin' somethin' nasty.
Weisheit: I can assure you we are not attempting to hide anything from you, Rupert.
RUpert: That right? Then you mind lettin' me into the club?
Weisheit: The honorable Chairman and I were just reviewing the field test results for the new prototype Necro Oracle Crypt ARM.

[Rupert's smirk fades.]

Rupert: Necro...ora-wha? What's that, now?
Weisheit: The Necro Oracle Crypt ARM.
Weisheit: To put it simply, it's a device with an ARM-like interface that can easily create armies of zombie soldiers.
Rupert: Huh. Sounds pretty freaky...
Rupert: I'm sure your Necro-majig is a mighty nifty gadget, but what all's it worth on the battlefield?
Rupert: In a real fight, I'd prefer to have an army of human soldiers watchin' my back.
Weisheit: Your assessment is quite astute. However, the destructive power of the Necro Oracle Crypt ARM is not merely physical in nature.
Charlton: Why don't we let Weisheit demonstrate how he intends to make use of it?
Rupert: Huh. Well, if you say so.
Rupert: But this Necro-somethin'-somethin' ARM...
Rupert: ...
Rupert: Ah, screw it. I'm just gonna call it a "black ARM". Your hoity-toity name makes my butthole itch.

[Charlton frowns.]

Charlton: Call it whatever you like.

[The screen fades to black and the player is prompted to save.]
