< Act 4-9 >
-Schnell Ruins: Sunken Quarter-
Levin: ...It sure is amazing to see a whole city just sinking into the ground like this...
Labyrinthia: To this day, the rotting carcass of the old capital is still sinking slowly into the earth. It's as though it's being eaten away by its own poison...
Clarissa: So this was the capital of Elesius in the day of the first princess medium and the original Chevalet Blanc... I wonder what kind of place it was back then?
Alexia: ...
Viento: Heh heh heh heh heh...
[Further away is Viento. Trueno warps in next to him.]
Trueno: Hah hah hah hah hah...
[And Lluvia joins in.]
Lluvia, Viento, & Trueno: Mwah hah hah hah hah!!!
Clarissa: The Tormenta Triad!
Alexia: You were waiting to battle us here?!
Lluvia: We shall persist for as long as we draw breath! Even if we fall to you a million times, we shall never accept defeat!
Labyrinthia: Do you *still* insist that strength rules all?!
Viento: We do! For that is the truth that guides our lives!
Viento: You cannot break us so easily--because we are what we believe!
Trueno: And because your sickly-sweet, feel-good philosophy is rife with contradictions and lies! So long as we can see that, we shall never be lead astray!
Labyrinthia: Contradictions and lies...?
Lluvia: That's right!
Lluvia: They say that Chevalet Blanc seeks to continue Warrior-King Hrathnir's nation-building reforms!
Alexia: And where are the contradictions and lies in that?!
Lluvia: Who was it that championed the ideas of a reduced military and political reforms? Was it the insignificant peasants of Elesius?
Lluvia: It was not! The reforms were forced upon us by Warrior-King Hrathnir! A clear-cut case of a strong ruler realizing his ambitions!
Labyrinthia: ...
Alexia: You claim that my father forced his beliefs on others...?
Lluvia: And you are doing the same! You say you're pursuing his ideals, but that is nothing more than continuing to enforce them upon the weak!
Ideals are not something to be inherited!
[The screen shakes violently and flashes white. Tactical Map view; the party and Triad are on a bridge above lava, but the path is broken behind the Triad, making the bridge a dead-end.]
Lluvia: We pooled our powers together to rework the land.
Viento: You're not getting away this time, Chevalet Blanc. The only way beyond here is through us!
Trueno: And that's not all... This time, we've got out entire skill set at our fingertips! This is a battle to the death, and we're ready to reign supreme!
[The brothers make duplicates of themselves and warp. The party, confused, looks around - and sees that the brothers and their duplicates are now surrounding them from every angle.]
=D.E.R.=
Labyrinthia: Let's take a look at the Tactical Map we'll be fighting on.
Labyrinthia: We'll be starting here...
Labyrinthia: And the Tormenta Triad's line looks like this.
Labyrinthia: We'll have to face an army of doppelgangers in these rather cramped quarters.
Labyrinthia: Instead of retreating in search of a safe point, I believe we should face our enemies from the front and build our offense that way.
Labyrinthia: The Tormenta Triad's best weapon lies in their teamwork...their Combination Arts. You could say it's in their blood.
The best defense against these maneuvers is a good offense... Strike the anchor of the attack first.
Labyrinthia: Even if you can't defeat a unit, you still might be able to break the combo. Try your best to disrupt their teamwork.
Viento: Might is the only thing that makes right! You've fought your way this far... You should know that all too well by now!
It is pure and simple truth... Only the strongest remains standing at the end of the war! Prepare yourselves, Chevalet Blanc!
[The battle ends when all enemies are defeated.]
Labyrinthia: Elesius lived in peace for twenty years. There was no hatred, no war--you think that was forced upon the country by King Hrathnir?!
Viento: King Hrathnir was running a puppet nation.
Trueno: The weak cannot resist the will of the strong!
Lluvia: No one would act for mere beliefs and ideals. If they did, it would only be because they were forced to!
Clarissa: ...
Alexia: ...
Labyrinthia: Well, you have one thing right...
I doubt most people are so easily swayed by emotion that they'll act on it at a moment's notice.
Levin: ...Ms. Wordsworth?!
[Labyrinthia steps towards them.]
Labyrinthia: ...But we in Chevalet Blanc want what thousands of others in Elesius do, and what King Hrathnir wanted--a calm, tranquil life.
This wasn't foisted upon us by the sheer force of King Hrathnir's will.
The people felt the King's desire, they realized they had the same desire in their hearts...and they followed it.
Lluvia: Nnngh...
Labyrinthia: This desire in my heart is not merely something I inherited from King Hrathnir!
It was there all along...and I'm not about to let it go! We cannot and will not turn back!
[Lluvia takes a step toward her.]
Lluvia: Power rules! It rules absolutely! Why do you think everyone always lusts after it? Well?! Answer me!
=D.E.R.=
Labyrinthia: Let's take a look at the Tactical Map we'll be fighting on.
Labyrinthia: We'll be starting here...
Labyrinthia: And the Tormenta Triad's line looks like this.
Labyrinthia: Well, we've managed to overcome their master-level Combination Arts...
But they still haven't faltered. In fact, they're fighting as if their lives depended on it.
Labyrinthia: I think this is going to be their last stand. They've prepared themselves mentally and physically for this moment. We'll need to hit them hard.
This isn't three fighters we're facing--it's a well-honed, three-armed battle machine. Let's show it what Chevalet Blanc can do!
[When one of them is defeated...]
Lluvia: We are the wind, the lightning, the rain itself! Our powers balance each other evenly!
Viento: As long as we're all together, each of our powers is suppressed by the others!
Trueno: And so, if one of us falls, it only means the remaining two become all the more powerful!
[When Trueno falls...]
Trueno: Sorry...!
-The remaining two have become more powerful!
[When Lluvia falls...]
Lluvia: It's all yours now!
[When Viento falls...]
Viento: Get them back for me, my brothers!
-The last survivor unleashes his full power!-
Viento: I am now on a higher plane...and it is here where you will be buried.
[Or...]
Trueno: I'll take care of this...for both of them!
[I'll edit later for Lluvia's line. The battle ends when all three are defeated.]
Labyrinthia: People don't just act when others force them to. Everyone has the power to act of their own volition.
Labyrinthia: A desire to bring peace to Elesius isn't something that King Hrathnir forced upon us. It is something that we each decided to fight for.
Viento: ...
Trueno: Dammit...
Labyrinthia: Aspirations aren't handed down. They well up from deep within us.
Labyrinthia: Why do you think Chevalet Blanc, and all people of Elesius, are fighting for a better future? No one has forced us to do it.
Labyrinthia: The reason everyone fights so hard is because those aspirations come from within. That's why we don't lose. That's why we can't lose.
[Lluvia hangs his head, hiding his eyes.]
Lluvia: Are you trying to say that it isn't Chevalet Blanc we lost to, but the people of Elesius?!
Lluvia: You're suggesting we lost to mere peasants?!
Labyrinthia: ...
[He looks up angrily.]
Lluvia: I cannot accept that. I will never accept that!
[The screen shakes and rumbles.]
Viento: Huh...?
Trueno: We've lingered too long!
Levin: If we stay any longer, this bridge is going to topple into the lava! C'mon, to the other side! Hurry!
[The party makes a run for it. A loud rumbling and crashing sound is heard.]
Labyrinthia: Eeeeyaaaaaaah!
[Labyrinthia had lagged behind, and the piece of the bridge she was standing on split off from the rest, and begins sinking into the lava. She grabs onto the ledge and tries to hold on.]
Levin: Teach!
Labyrinthia: I may have reached the limits of my capability here... This isn't looking too good...
Labyrinthia: Aaaaaah!
[An even louder rumbling sound is heard as the screen momentarily turns black. An illustration then shows Lluvia under the broken piece of the bridge, standing in the lava and pushing the bridge up to support Labyrinthia.]
Labyrinthia: ...What?!
Viento: Brother?
Trueno: Brother!!
Lluvia: There's no time to gape! Quickly, climb up to safety!
Labyrinthia: But what about you?!
Lluvia: Never mind that! You beat us--you're the stronger one!
Lluvia: That strength gives you the right to survive...
Lluvia: So GO!!
Labyrinthia: But...!
[The ceiling begins the crumble and pieces of it falls, heading towards her.]
Labyrinthia: Not the ceiling!
[The other two jump onto the bridge, catching the falling boulders.]
Lluvia: Ar...rrrrgh...
Viento: Urrrrrgggggh... Go! Climb up! This will not be your tomb!
Trueno: Brother said to go! Brother must be obeyed! So GO!
Levin: Teach, over here!
Clarissa: Labyrinthia!
[Labyrinthia climbs up to safety and looks back at the Tormenta Triad.]
Lluvia: Don't misunderstand... We didn't rescue you!
Viento: In this world, strength rules all! We will not abandon the principles that we have embraced...that we have revered!
Trueno: You beat us, so you must live! We cannot allow you to die here!
Lluvia: Though we may fall, the principles we revere will never falter!
Lluvia: You must live...and leave...and fight on! Until the day you're beaten by someone stronger!
Lluvia: That's when you'll understand...that strength rules all! Wah hah hah hah hah hah hah!
[The shaking intensifies, and the brothers sink into the lava...]
Labyrinthia: "Strength rules all"... I think everyone knows that on some level...
Labyrinthia: But to preserve their humanity, people will strive to resist that principle...to find other ways of living together.
Labyrinthia: ...
Labyrinthia: ...
Labyrinthia: That's right, isn't it, Your Majesty? Little by little, I'm beginning to understand the future you aspired to...
[Deeper into the ruins....]
Edna: This can't be happening! All of my hopes and dreams... To see them die in a place like this...
Edna: ...
[She steps closer to Charlton.]
Edna: There must be a way... Come on, Charlton, do something! Tell me you have something planned!
Charlton: Always thinking about saving yourself... Your egotism grows tiresome.
Charlton: Maybe you should try to do something for yourself for a change?
[She steps back.]
Edna: Ch-Charlton...
[Suddenly, Charlton grabs Edna by the throat and holds her up above the floor.]
Charlton: Where is your nobility, Edna? Where is your pride as a noblewoman of Elesius?!
Charlton: You act only when safe and run at the first sign of danger!
Charlton: If you can't haughtily command a lackey to die in your stead, then you're suddenly a damsel in distress, pleading for help!
Charlton: You are gutter trash, Edna! There is nothing "noble" about you!
Charlton: The filth that taints the spirits of the most wretched of lowborn commoners has polluted your very soul!
Charlton: Save you? I'd rather see you die!
Edna: Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeekkk!!!
Charlton: Nobility does not come from one's blood! True nobility comes only from the spirit!!
Charlton: Your behavior has defiled the pride of nobility! Do you understand me, Edna?!
Charlton: If you want to call yourself a noble, then throw yourself in front of that raging storm of swords!
Charlton: If you want to be a noble, earn it!!
Edna: Urggggghhhh...
Katrina: Hee hee hee! Wonderful! So wonderful! Edna's fear is exquisite!
Charlton: ...
Charlton: Grrr...
[Charlton puts Edna down and storms off. Edna recovers and clenches her fist angrily.]
Edna: That Charlton... For a man of such low birth to call my nobility into question...!
[Katrina turns away.]
Katrina: That'S true. When you look at it that way, Charlton is really no one of consequence...
Edna: ...
[Katrina looks at Edna again.]
Katrina: And he's no different from you, Edna...
Katrina: I feel just as much fear coming from him as I feel coming from you. He just doesn't show it...
Edna: That man's...afraid?
Katrina: He certainly is. When my sister came to the capital, I felt utter terror from him.
[Edna turns to Katrina.]
Edna: Terror? So that's what's lurking behind those steely eyes, hmm?
Katrina: He's surprisingly soft inside, you know.
Edna: ...
[Edna throws her head back and laughs.]
Edna: Heh heh heh... Bwah hah hah hah hah hah! The little pup was trying to bark like a big dog, huh? Maybe I should go help him out...
[Edna walks away, leaving Katrina alone. The girl closes her eyes.]
Katrina: I wonder if that will make things more interesting...?
[The screen suddenly shakes and the colors invert for just a split second and Katrina doubles over, clutching her head.]
Katrina: Urgh...
Katrina: ...
Katrina: Cease your meddling... I need no help to teach you the meaning of fear.
Katrina: ...
[She opens her eyes and speaks more softly.]
Katrina: I hate this weakness of mine... If only I could do away with it...
[The screen turns black and the player is prompted to save.]
