< Final Act 2 >
[A path from Foothills of No Return forms to Trail to the Summit, which is marked with a red !. As the party makes its way up the mountain, they look up to the sky. Alexia hangs her head.]
Alexia: The sky... The azure skies of Elesius are no more...
Clarissa: But we can't afford to hang our heads in despair! Whatever happens, we have to keep looking up!
[Alexia looks up and turns to Clarissa.]
Alexia: Yes... To support ourselves when we're about to fall... And to support others when they're about to fall...!
[The screen shakes momentarily.]
Labyrinthia: What was that?!
Felius: The dimensional collapse is progressing. It's beginning to threaten the structural integrity of Filgaia itself.
Levin: What's that supposed to mean?!
Ragnar: I haven't a clue myself.
Ragnar: But it's pretty clear that *something's* going on, so I doubt we have much of a choice but to accept what Felius says...
Clarissa: We have to hurry! If these disturbances spread throughout Filgaia...
[Tactical Map style, the party is confronted by a group of bird enemies envelopped in purple miasma.]
Alexia: Monsters?! But there's something strange about them...
Felius: The dimensional collapse is expanding--twisting the very fabric of life.
Levin: So...does that make them dangerous?
Felius: ...I don't know.
The structure of matter, the laws of nature, and even basic scientific principles are beginning to deviate from what we used to know them to be.
We'll have to discard everything we've relied on in order to deal with these mutated creatures.
Labyrinthia: I don't possess any knowledge that would be of use in such a situation...
Labyrinthia: But what we do have is courage! And with courage, we have no need to cower from the unknown!
Levin: ...I think you're kinda miscast for that line, Ms. Wordsworth, but you delivered it pretty well!
Labyrinthia: Ahem!...Though to be honest, my head is swimming after that whole courage speech...
[Everyone turns to look at Labyrinthia.]
Ragnar: Come on, this is no different from anything else we've faced. Against the extraordinary, the ordinary wins every time. Let's just do what we always do!
Labyrinthia: Precisely! I knew we had it in us!
Clarissa: I'm not sure this is the best time for this team-bonding stuff, people...
Alexia: It doesn't matter what we're facing! We've made it this far--we can triumph over anything!
[The party turns to the group of monsters and get ready.]
=D.E.R.=
Labyrinthia: Let's take a look at the Tactical Map we'll be fighting on.
Labyrinthia: We'll be starting here...
Labyrinthia: And the enemy line looks like this.
Labyrinthia: What we have before us is something completely new--transformed creatures of some sort.
Given how mutated these monsters appear, their skills and fighting style will undoubtedly differ from what we know as well.
Labyrinthia: These monsters may appear to all be of the same type, but we should prepare ourselves for any kind of combat.
Prepare a mixture of unit types and skills, making sure that any weaknesses and blind spots are fully covered.
Labyrinthia: We can't afford to tire ourselves out too much with this battle.
Our real objective lies beyond!
[The battle ends when all enemies are defeated. The party looks up at the gate in the sky.]
Labyrinthia: It looks like a little bit more of Elesius's sky has been swallowed up...
Alexia: If this were an enemy we could kill, there would be any number of ways to deal with it, but...
Ragnar: This is an entirely different sort of foe, isn't it?
[They look at Felius.]
Levin: Isn't there anything we can do...?
Felius: There is a way. So don't give up yet!
Clarissa: Of course not! There's no way anyone's going to quit now! But...
[Clarissa stops mid-sentence and hangs her head.]
Felius: ...
Labyrinthia: Perhaps you could start by explaining what exactly it is that's polluting our sky?
Felius: It's a tear in the boundary between the two worlds, a gaping maw that threatens to swallow both.
Clarissa: Two worlds...
Felius: Kressen--Weisheit, rather--spoke of it earlier.
Felius: He said that to exact his revenge, he was going to make the worlds of Elw Borea and Filgaia consume each other.
Levin: If that's what's happening, then we're done for! What could we possibly do to stop it?!
[Labyrinthia brings a hand to her chin in thought.]
Labyrinthia: If the destruction of the worlds is all stemming from that tear in the sky...
Labyrinthia: Then if we could somehow mend the tear, wouldn't that solve the whole problem?
Levin: Ms. Wordsworth! We're supposed to be thinking of practical solutions here!
Felius: No--that is exactly what we need to do.
[Levin and Clarissa are shocked.]
Levin: Whaaaaaaat?!
Clarissa: But how could we possibly...?
Felius: The mechanical ship that Eisen was telling us about... It's the Lombardia, an interdimensional vessel that is capable of traveling to other worlds.
Felius: To put it simply...
Felius: The Lombardia is equipped with a device that can open a gate connecting this world to another world.
Labyrinthia: And a device that can open a gate is a device that can also close a gate, I presume?
Alexia: Ah, I see... Your intellect is as keen as ever, Labyrinthia. I never would have thought of that.
Ragnar: But is it really going to be that simple?
Felius: Weisheit must have started the dimensional collapse by overloading the gate generator to create a gate that expands without limit...
Felius: If the Lombardia's gate convergence rate were to exceed the gate's expansion rate, then, theoretically...
Alexia: Theoretically, indeed...
Alexia: But in order to make that theory a reality, I suspect we'll need to do more than just think about numbers.
Clarissa: And that means there *is* something we can do! Let's go!!
[The scene changes to somewhere in the wastelands.]
[NARRATIVE]: Meanwhile...
[A coach is seen, and of course, Edna is inside, barking orders at the driver.]
Edna: Hurry! Hurry, I say! I'm sick of your dawdling!
Edna: I don't care which ship I board, just so long as it'll take me away from this dump! It'll be me abandoning Elesius, not the other way around!
Edna: Heh heh heh heh... And I still have most of the treasure that we took from the castle. I'll be able to live in the lap of luxury for quite some time...
Edna: Charlton called it a "war fund", but that just shows how little the lowborn know about spending money.
Edna: I'll just leave Elesius, seduce some young nobleman somewhere, and wait for an opportunity to regain my proper standing.
Edna: As if I'd let myself rot in a place like this!
[The screen shakes after a crashing sound and the coach stops. The horse whinnies and Edna shrieks.]
Edna: Aaaaaaaaaah! What...what was that?!
[There are two more crashes.]
Edna: What the... What's happening out there?! Who would interfere with the heroine of the story?!
[Edna steps out of the coach.]
Edna: Huh? Escorts! Where are you?! How dare you leave me alone out here!
[She looks around... and sees her escorts dead on the ground.]
Edna: Eee...EEEYAAAAAAAH!
[Before the coach... stands a beaten up Weisheit.]
Weisheit: It's been a long time, Reverend Mother...
Edna: Wha... W-Weisheit?! I thought you were supposed to be dead!
Weisheit: Heh heh heh... I've been hearing that a lot lately...
Edna: What do you mean? What are you planning to do to me?!
Weisheit: I want your body. At this point, I can't afford to be picky. You must give it to me!
Edna: Eee...EEEYAAAAAAAH!
[Weisheit holds a hand to his face, showing only a glowing orange eye.]
Weisheit: Entrust your body to me...
[He steps towards Edna but she clenches her fist and yells.]
Edna: Stay right there! Don't come any closer!
[She takes out a dagger and lunges at him, stabbing him right in the stomach.]
Weisheit: U...urgh...
Edna: I wouldn't give it up to a loser like you! I'm not that easy!
[Weisheit, despite the wounds, gets closer still.]
Weisheit: I care nothing for your will. I will crush it beneath my heel! You, and Chevalet Blanc, and this whole world!
[A blast of white light covers the screen just as Edna brings her hands to her face in horror.]
Edna: EEEEEEEEYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAH...!!!
[Edna's voice distorts morbidly at the end of her scream and the screen fades to black, prompting the player to save.]
