This is it, folks! The finale!
< Final Act 4 >
[The screen rumbles violently.]
Alexia: Urgh!
Clarissa: Aaaah!
Fear Clysmian: Let terror sate your empty hearts. Until the end of this world, I shall feast on the heart of the cataclysm!
Fear Clysmian: What do you think you can do with your bodies of flesh?
So long as this world is drenched in fear, how could you possibly hope to stop the disaster that is I?
[A close-up of Alexia's face shows her determined expression.]
Alexia: There is a way! We haven't abandoned hope yet...
Fear Clysmian: Whatever do you mean?
Alexia: You were the one who taught us how to stop you!
[Alexia takes a step forward, holding Iskender Bey.]
Alexia: You said the only force that could counter the power of a Clysmian is the power of the Guardians themselves...!
Felius: Matching opposing forces to cancel both out...
Felius: Colliding Guardian and Clysmian to destroy both, like the gate between worlds Weisheit opened?
Ragnar: Is that possible...?
Fear Clysmian: ...
Alexia: Humanity has no cause for fear! For Katrina is not the only princess-medium of Elesius!
[Alexia drives Iskender Bey into the ground.]
Levin: No way...!
Labyrinthia: Your Highness!
[Alexia stands by her sword and holds a hand to her heart as a bright, light blue and white light emanates from her.]
Alexia: Guardians... You who sustain this world... Answer the plea of this princess-medium of Elesius!
Alexia: I am Alexia Lynn Elesius! Can you hear my voice? Will you answer me?!
[There is a long moment of silence...]
Fear Clysmian: Did you think they would actually respond...?
Fear Clysmian: Having failed the Rite of Divine Coalescence, you could hardly hope to summon a Guardian. Have you lost your mind in terror?
Alexia: ...!
Fear Clysmian: Now cease your disgraceful ruse.
[After a small moment, Clarissa takes a hold of Alexia's hand.]
Alexia: --?!
Clarissa: Even if she couldn't do it alone, Alexia has me now!
[Clarissa mirrors Alexia's pose, holding her hand to her heart. The light grows stronger.]
Clarissa: When the two of us stand together...
Alexia: The things I could not do yesterday... I shall not fear to attempt today... For I will never give up on tomorrow!
[The light suddenly brightens exponentially, blinding the Clysmian.]
Fear Clysmian: What...what is this?!
Fear Clysmian: Is this...the power of the Guardians? This isn't possible...!
Fear Clysmian: You... You don't have the power to do this!
[The screen rumbles violently. The two girls hold Strahl Gewehr together as it accumulates a gigantic force.]
Clarissa & Alexia: Hyaaaaaaaah!
[They fire and the blast of light envelops the Clysmian.]
Fear Clysmian: Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh...!
[The screen flashes black and the Clysmian's form disappears, but the miasma remains, and so, it speaks again.]
Fear Clysmian: How...how can this be?! Has Alexia has awakened as a princess-medium despite failing the Rite?
Clarissa: We would never abandon our future so easily!
Alexia: We would never despair in the face of tragedy!
Fear Clysmian: Boast not to me, puny creatures!
Fear Clysmian: I will become one with Katrina, and stop you in my true form!
[The miasma returns to Katrina and bursts, covering the screen. As it clears, they now witness the monstrosity that is the Clysmian's true form, merged with Katrina...]
=D.E.R.=
Labyrinthia: Let's take a look at the Tactical Map we'll be fighting on.
Labyrinthia: We'll be starting here...
Labyrinthia: And the enemy line looks like this. The Clysmian has merged with Princess Katrina and assumed its final form...
Labyrinthia: This is the first Clysmian the human race has ever seen, a completely unknown threat--and the natural response to the unknown is fear!
I have no way to even guess at our opponent's attack or defense abilities.
Labyrinthia: ...Does this mean we are helpless against this unknown adversary?
...
No... I believe that we have the power to overcome the unknown and strike down our fears.
This is the final battle. And for my final D.E.R., I have only this to say...
.........
......
...
Let's put an end to this...together...
Disaster Maiden Katrina: None can hope to to overcome this disaster.
Disaster Maiden Katrina: May you tremble in terror until your lives are blown away...
[When Katrina is at about 2/3 of her HP...]
-Katrina took up Advanced Guard mode!-
[After a few Combination Attacks...]
-Advanced Guard broken!-
[The battle ends when Katrina is defeated.]
Alexia: Katrina...?
[Katrina's body floats, envelopped by dark energy.]
Fear Clysmian: It is futile! Futile! Fighting me is futile and meaningless!
Fear Clysmian: Since it cannot feel fear, this host can absorb it in infinite quantities, and regenerate me without end!
[The Clysmian reforms, merging with Katrina again.]
Levin: Shut the hell up, you stupid crow! Your squawking doesn't scare me!
Felius: Regenerate as much as you like--we'll be ready and waiting to kill you yet again each time!
Labyrinthia: Thay may not make a lot of sense, but there's no way we're going to let that sway us now...
Ragnar: If you're done regenerating, then how about we get started on the next round?
Ragnar: Don't keep us waiting any longer!
Fear Clysmian: Who are you kidding with all of your bluster? Your bodies are wounded and faltering, while mine is infinite! I can endure forever!
[The Clysmian charges for an attack... but Tony charges at it and nullifies it.]
Fear Clysmian: What?! How could a mere dog nullify my power?!
Tony: ...
Clarissa: C'mon--let's do it!
[The party charges at the Clysmian and we see a sequence in black and white sketches. Katrina attacks the party mercilessly. Labyrinthia protects them with a barrier and Katrina continues summoning more cronies. Ragnar and Felius fight back to back and Levin fights them off on his side. More are summoned, and Alexia raises Iskender Bey above her head and brings it down, creating a huge blast of energy. Clarissa runs up to the Clysmian and jumps, trying to attack with the butt of Strahl Gewehr, but Katrina blocks it. Clarissa blasts at it, jumping back. It seems to have an effect and the party watches on as the Clysmian merely regenerates again, and they charge once more...]
Levin: Back again, same as before... This is getting old, crow! But I've still got some fight in me...
Fear Clysmian: Why? Why do you fight when you know you will never achieve victory? Does that give you no pause?
Fear Clysmian: Why do you mortal humans stand against an eternal being?
Clarissa: As you say, we are mortal... None of us can live forever.
Clarissa: But we won't give up on living our lives for all they're worth just because we're going to die someday!
Clarissa: This valiant battle... There's nothing futile about it!
Alexia: The length of our lives doesn't matter. As long as humanity has a future, there'll be someone to inherit our glory!
Alexia: If each of us hurls ourselves against those limits, with souls ablaze, we can beat back any darkness!
Alexia: Don't look down upon us, Clysmian! We are stronger foes than you realize!
Fear Clysmian: Grrr... You insignificant...
[A light blue crackle appears on the screen, like glass breaking, and a cut-in shows the top of Katrina's body beginning to crack.]
Fear Clysmian: What?! What's happening...?!
[It crackles again and we hear the sound of glass slowly breaking and falling apart.]
Fear Clysmian: My body is breaking down... How can this be?! I am eternal...!
[We see Katrina against a black background.]
Katrina: It is because you've become afraid.
Alexia: Katrina?!
Katrina: Because Alexia and her friends refused to abandon their fight against you...you were finally struck with a twinge of fear. As a part of you, I felt it happen...
[The crackling grows.]
Fear Clysmian: That... That can't be...
[Its body starts to fade and Katrina's body glows. Dark feathers fall down and she looks at her hands as they begin to break apart.]
Katrina: Your very existence is based on the inability to know far yourself. At the moment you felt it, that contradiction spelled your destruction.
Katrina: And as your host, I too was finally able to understand this thing called fear...
Clarissa: Princess Katrina! What are you doing?!
[Katrina looks up at the gaping maw in the sky.]
Katrina: This is not the sky of the Elesius I love...
Katrina: Mother and Father and Alexia used to smile at me beneath a sky so vast and blue that I'd forget there was ever a ground beneath me.
Katrina: So much joy has already been torn from us, but in Elesius, and in Filgaia, our memories still remain...
Katrina: I couldn't bear to see those memories be torn away as well... That truly frightens me.
Fear Clysmian: Stop this, Princess-Medium! You and I ar one! If I am destroyed, you too would be rent from this world!
Katrina: But if I were to stop now...we could never defeat you.
[The screen rumbles as the Clysmian continues to crumble.]
Fear Clysmian: Urrr...AAAAAAAAGH!
Alexia: Katrina! Please, stop! You don't need to do this!
Alexia: I can't bear to lose you too!
Katrina: I was tired of always being protected. I wanted to be like all of you. I wanted to protect the things that I love.
Katrina: I wanted to fight!
Katrina: But before I could fight, I needed to triumph over my inability to fear...
Katrina: Now...now I'm fighting beside you, Alexia, aren't I? Together, we're fighting to protect the things that we love...
Alexia: Katrina!
Clarissa: Princess Katrina!
[The crackling spreads more and more on Katrina's body and she reaches a hand out to Alexia.]
Katrina: I'm scared... Alexia, I'm so scared...
Katrina: I feel like I'm being sucked away... It's getting darker... Soon I'll be all alone...
[Alexia runs towards her, frantically.]
Alexia: Katrina! Katrina!! KATRINAAAAAAA!!!
Alexia: Katrina...
Katrina: I was... Katrina Liane Elesius... Wasn't I...?
[Just as Alexia reaches her sister's hand, she closes her hand to wrap her fingers around it... but Katrina has already disappeared. Alexia falls to her knees and hangs her head, weeping.]
Alexia: ...
Alexia: Katrina... You were Katrina Liane Elesius... But you were also...my beloved sister...
[The screen rumbles and we see the gate up in the sky.]
Clarissa: Felius!
Felius: That's it! The way is clear! Now I just need to get to the Lombardia and close the gate!
Clarissa: I'm going with you!
Felius: ...
Clarissa: Maybe I won't be able to help, but at least I'll be there to take you back home!
Felius: There's no time! We must hurry, Clarissa!
[The two run off in direction of Weisheit's base.]
Clarissa: So Weisheit had a hideout here, too...
Felius: This is where he set up the gate generator.
Clarissa: Gate generator...?
Felius: It's a machine that creates interdimensional gates--like the "hole" in the sky above us.
Felius: ...
Felius: Gate generators use Elw Borean technology. It must've taken him hundreds of years to create one here on Filgaia...
Clarissa: ...
Felius: And this...
[The two arrive before the Lombardia in a hangar.]
Felius: ...is the dragon-class interdimensional transport vessel, Lombardia. The ship that brought us here.
[The two of them board the Lombardia and sit down at the pilot's seat.]
Clarissa: What...what should I do?
Felius: Just watch this number here, and make sure its rate of increase doesn't exceed the limits shown.
Clarissa: Uh, right!
Felius: Kressen said he'd planned to use my body to fly the Lombardia...
Felius: How ironic... Kressen's painstaking repairs have made things that much easier for us.
Clarissa: Felius...
Felius: Don't worry. I'll get it done.
Clarissa: I know, but...how?!
Felius: It looks like the linear catapult is online. We'll be able to reach the gate within seconds!
Felius: See that harness? Put it on--it'll keep you in the seat in case of a sudden jolt!
Clarissa: Um, you mean this? If you say so...
[Outside, Labyrinthia and Alexia watch as the gate to the hangar opens.]
Labyrinthia: Alexia...
Alexia: Like a dandelion seed about to be swept away by the wind... Who knows where it might land...
[Snow blows around them as the Lombardia launches and shoots for the sky. Inside...]
Felius: The Lombardia is a dragon-class interdimensional vessel. It can open gates to reach other dimensions!
Felius: In other words, it has an onboard gate generator! If we use that...!
Clarissa: So the key that opens the gate is the same key that closes the gate?!
Felius: We have the energy! All that's left is to try to match the expansion rate of the runaway gate...
Clarissa: I know we can do it. So let's do it!
Felius: Right!
[The ship stops just under the gate.]
Felius: Coordinates are set. Bypass control...good, energy's being shunted to the gate generator...
Felius: To counteract the gate's runaway expansion, we'll need to repair the damage to the dimensional rim...
Clarissa: ...
[Felius pushes a lever to his side.]
Felius: Maximum drive!
[He pushes it to the limit and the ship glows a golden light. However, he puts both hands on the lever and tries to hold it as the screen shakes.]
Felius: Urrrrrgh... This resistance is crazy! It's pushing the lever back...
Felius: I can't match the gate's expansion rate. I'll have to blow the generators... It's...the only option left...
[Clarissa puts her hands on his and helps push the lever.]
Felius: Huh?!
Clarissa: I can't just sit back and watch!
Felius: ...Clarissa...
Clarissa: I want to help too. I should just keep pushing this, right?
Felius: We have to blow the Lombardia's generators... It's the only way we'll have enough energy to counteract the disruption at the center of the event horizon.
Clarissa: I have no idea what that means, but...it'll save everyone, right?
Felius: Right...
Clarissa: Then...we can't afford to fail now!
[They continue to push the lever and Felius manages to jam his halberd into it to secure it in place. The two stand from their seats.]
Felius: There, the lever's locked. Safety...off. Time to start the countdown...
[An alarm goes off and the room flashes red.]
Clarissa: Huh?! What...what's going on?!
Felius: Don't worry. C'mon, this way.
Clarissa: As long as we stay together, I know it'll work!
Felius: ...
[They make their way through the ship and stop before an escape pod.]
Clarissa: What's this...?
Felius: I want you to get inside the pod, and wait for instructions.
Clarissa: I don't see how that'll help, but, all right...
[Clarissa climbs into the pod. Felius looks at her and she pops her head out.]
Clarissa: Wait...! What about you?!
Felius: ...
Clarissa: Hey!
Felius: You have to return to Filgaia...
Clarissa: --?!
Clarissa: When we go back, we'll go back together!
Clarissa: As long as we stay together, we can do anything, right...?
Clarissa: Right? ...Right?!
Felius: ...
Clarissa: Felius, you can't do this! Don't do this to me!
[We see a cut-in of the gate generator.]
Felius: I have to activate the Lombardia's gate generator. I can only do that if I stay behind.
Clarissa: But... But then--
Felius: I know. But you need to go back to Filgaia.
Felius: You have to extract the secret of the Yggdrasil System from the Legacy Ruins. You have to stop Filgaia's decay.
[A sepia version of Melissa's death scene is shown.]
Felius: Clarissa... You inherited Melissa's dream.
Felius: And now that dream is your dream too. Right?
Clarissa: But I... I can't sacrifice you to make our dream come true!
Clarissa: We've always been together...
Clarissa: How can we be torn apart now, after we've been together all this time...?
Felius: ...
[Clarissa looks up at Felius pleadingly.]
Clarissa: Don't leave me alone!!
Felius: ...
Felius: No matter how much pain this brings you... This is my desire... This is my one and only dream...
Clarissa: ...
Felius: I'm an alien from Elw Borea...
Felius: I always thought it wouldn't be right for me to desire anything on Filgaia, to want anything from myself.
[We see Felius standing alone on a yellowish-pink background with bubbles of light.]
Felius: But by coming to Filgaia, I gained something new... A family.
[Melissa and young Clarissa appear at his sides.]
Felius: At first, it was the short time I spent in our family of three, with you and Melissa.
[They're replaced by Clarissa in her first outfit, Labyrinthia, Alexia, Levin and Ragnar.]
Felius: And then my family grew to include everyone in Chevalet Blanc.
[Felius looks down at Clarissa again.]
Felius: All of them...
Felius: True friends, who hold their dreams dear. THey live their lives to the fullest, willing to endure anything in pursuit of those goals.
Felius: ...
Felius: Traveling with such friends, I too began to search for a dream to pursue...
Felius: And finally, I discovered a dream of my own on Filgaia.
Clarissa: Your own...dream...?
Felius: Yes, Clarissa...
Felius: My dream is to one day see everyone else's dreams come true.
Clarissa: ...
Felius: It's a big dream, as good as anyone else's, right?
Felius: And to make that dream come true, I want to send you back to Filgaia. I want you to protect everyone, and protect Filgaia itself.
Clarissa: But...I came along so I could bring you back with me...
[They grasp each other's hands tightly.]
Felius: Don't worry. Someday I'll come back.
Felius: I won,t let what you said become a lie, Clarissa. I know how much you hate lies, and I would never make a liar out of you.
Clarissa: Felius...
Felius: Even when you let go of my hand, I'll always be holding yours. No matter where I am. No matter how far away.
Clarissa: Yeah... Because we're family...
[She sits back into the pod and Felius closes it. Clarissa looks at him through the window on the front. She seems him say something, but can't hear him. He turns and runs down the hall.]
Clarissa: Felius! Felius!! You know...
[The screen turns black and Clarissa cries.]
Clarissa: We were always together, but I... I never had a chance to tell you... ...So please, Felius...
[Outside, the Lombardia glows gold, and the escape pod is launched. Felius sits in the pilot's seat as the alarm continues.]
Felius: Kressen! This is the end!
Felius: I've succeeded despite you! Because this time--
Felius: I've protected everyone!!!
[Felius smashes his fist against a red button behind a safety glass, and the gate generator explodes. The Lombardia explodes beneath the gate as the escape pod falls and the ending theme begins playing. The party runs together, looking at the sky, in order to get to Clarissa's falling pod. As it nears the ground, the pod dissolves into golden light, and Alexia catches Clarissa as she drifts down. She holds Clarissa tightly. Clarissa opens her eyes but closes them again as she begins to cry. The others look up as the sky becomes blue again, and the camera pans up to show the sun shining down on them. The credits roll. After the credits, we see Elesius's flag waving in the wind.]
[NARRATIVE]: Chevalet Blanc returned to the capital to begin the long task of restoring peace and order to the shattered kingdom of Elesius.
[NARRATIVE]: One month later, Princess-Regent Alexia Lynn Elesius lifted the state of emergency that had been declared throughout the kingdom, and the chain of incidents that had begun with the Council of Elder Statesmen seizing power was finally brought to a close.
[NARRATIVE]: And with its final task complete, Chevalet Blanc was dissolved.
[We see an illustration of Alexia, with her hair longer and wearing her princess dress, giving a speech from a balcony of the castle.]
[NARRATIVE]: Alexia promptly abolished the monarchy that had led Elesius, in order to search for a new form of government in which all could participate.
It was without question a difficult road she had chosen, a reformation that could take years to complete. Would future generations vilify her as the destroyer of Elesius?
Whenever she begun to lose heart, Alexia recalled the words of her father, Hrathnir. If their crossed swords had told him of her own feelings, surely she could understand his desires as well. And so, she continued forward with renewed determination--whispering the name of her valiant, beloved sister all the while...
[Next we see Levin at his home, holding her two index fingers to his temple and looking troubled and deep in thought.]
[NARRATIVE]: Levin, once more a proud member of House Brenton, worked with his father, Eisen, to help restore Elesius. His glimpse of the outer world taught him that he must strive with all his might to gasp his future, and that he cannot go forward all on his own. His next step should be a much more decisive one.
At least, in theory.
Two distinct feelings continued to torment his heart. Toward which one would he take that next step...? There was no end in sight to Levin's days of youthful suffering.
[Labyrinthia is at the front of a classroom, pointing at a blackboard and holding a book as she teaches a class of children. She's wearing glasses, but not her cape.]
[NARRATIVE]: Labyrinthia declined an invitation to resume her position as the court magician, instead opening a private school in Elensia.
To her, education was not about merely teaching facts: it was a way of giving children the potential and freedom to choose their own ways of life. Is that not what Hrathir wanted, after all?
Freedom and possibilities... Perhaps those were nothing more than sweet poison. But Labyrinthia hoped to work with the people of Elesius to find answers to the myriad questions posed by Alexia's reforms.
[Ragnar is somewhere outside, holding a ladle as he kneels by a pot of stew and hands out a bowl to a child in rags. More dark-skinned children wait in line.]
[NARRATIVE]: Ragnar bore witness to the destruction of the Elesius that had taken his homeland. When he saw it being rebuilt into a new nation, he said farewell to his former companions, departing on a journey to quiet the flames of war that still raged across Filgaia.
Ragnar knew well the depth of the colossal undertaking to which he had set himself upon, but he could hardly bear to stand by while others continued to suffer.
Even if no answer was apparent, one could still struggle against the problems until they finally gave way. After all, what better way to show one's desire to find true strength?
-The Open Wilderness-
[The desert. The sky is tinged with colors of twilight. We see a pair of dandelions in a cut-in.]
Clarissa: Even way out here, there are flowers blooming...
Clarissa: I'm not alone, you know.
Clarissa: No one in this world is truly alone.
[Clarissa stands in the wilderness, looking at the sunset sky as Tony sits by her. A star in the distance twinkles brightly as the wind blows through her hair.]
Clarissa: Felius... I wonder what you're doing right now?
Clarissa: Where are you? When are you coming back? Are you taking care of yourself?
Clarissa: As for me, I'm still giving it my all.
Clarissa: After all--I don't want to make a liar out of myself!
-THE END-
[After a while, the screen turns black, and...]
[NARRATIVE]: "ELEVEN YEARS LATER... IN A REMOTE CORNER OF THE WORLD, A MIRACLE OCCURED, AND THE PROMISE OF DAYS LONG PAST WAS FULFILLED."
-Tutorial: About Clear Data-
* You can now save a Clear Data file, allowing you to start an "Ex. New Game".
* If you load a saved Clear Data file, the game will start at the beginning, but you will retain all of your items and gella from the previous playthrough.
* Additionally, the amount of EXP, CSP, and gella earned from each battle will increase. With each successive playthrough, it increases further.
* It is highly recommended that you save your Clear Data to a separate file and do not overwrite your regular save data.
[The player is prompted to save and is finally taken back to the title screen.]
