I'm so impressed with you two!! Thanks for the pictures. The bike seat is what always gets me and discourages me from riding often. You have more pluck than me, that's for sure!
You'd be surprised what a huge variety of seats are available now; some are really wonderful. The one I just retired was excellent for short neighborhood rides; it was big and flat and wide and a lot like a comfy chair. It just got to rubbing in the wrong places after about 20 miles. If you want to try again, you might check out big, wide, cushy seats! They're not expensive, either.
You guys are riding fools :). Awesome picture of the cranes -- I have a thing for cranes. Glad to hear you got a new seat -- may you enjoy many miles on it!
I have a coworker who rides long miles on those gravel trails -- he has to clean/lube his chain frequently on those rides, so you might want to give them a look.
I liked my old seat very much, but it wasn't fabulous on long rides or bumpy ones. Do you have a bike store where you can try them out? At one of our local shops, they have a bike set up with a quick-release on the seat post, and all the seats they sell have a "tester" already on a post, and you can just switch them and try them all out. I was amazed at how many (probably 20!) I tried that weren't as good as my old seat...but then one was much better! I would have had to try and return a LOT of seats before getting to the one that worked, if I hadn't been able to try them in the store. They even adjusted the tilt for me on a couple of them so I could really tell what they felt like.
Your new camera is fantastic -- I love those pictures! Each one looks like a postcard. You're both inspiring, though unfortunately, my inertia has so far proven to be resistant to actually translating that inspiration into getting up off my ass...

The camera is a breath of fresh air compared to the little one from J's work! Whew. Nice pictures again! As for inspiration, thanks! And inspiration takes many forms. You're raising a puppy, and should probably be lying on a chaise having a pool boy bring you frosty drinks and rub your feet!

Do you think Tony would mind if I started calling him "pool boy?" Or, more importantly, do you think I could get him on board with the frosty-drink & foot rub thing? I have to admit that I've been craving a milkshake ever since seeing the photo of the meal you had at Monty's in J's journal entry. Yummmm...

And the seat...I liked my old seat fine too, but not after about 20 miles; I'm very excited about the new seat!
