Any good laptop brand names?

The ones I have are old & out of date [Windows 98, lol] and I want something new and reliable. Nothing too crazy - I'll only use it for writing and storing photos. Any suggestions?

Oh, and nothing over 700$ :(

Definately want to stay away from Dell's and Gateways.
IMO.
Hate them hate them hate them.
Refuse to work on them.
When friends want me to.

Never charge anyone else.

So I know I posted this entry a year ago, but I would like to say I just finally bought a laptop & it is in fact, an HP.
I LOVE IT.
