Art, Take 1

Out running errands today I had to make a stop at the Office Depot to buy pens, which is always a dangerous thing for me because I am a sucker for pens and notebooks and binders. But walking down the art supply aisle I felt a really strong desire to start drawing again. I used to attempt to draw pictures all the time and just...quit for reasons I'm ( Read more... )

The problem is I can't find any other arts/crafts stores in Gainesville. Point of fact I can't find anything in Gainesville- I spent 45 minutes trying to find a post office today so I could mail Terry her thank-you present. It was right there next to the Office Depot, so I figured it was better to grab that rather than drive around town trying to find another place and getting lost.

Do you guys have Curry's or is that a Canadian thing? Because they're awesome art stores.

Coming up with a style is hard, I would do some life drawing and technical studies first and rather than coming up or settling on a style, let it... find you... sort of thing. That way you have a technical background to flow from.

Or at least, that's what they teach us in school.

I want to see your art. And not being able to get anything to come on paper... I hear you, I have that problem too and it sucks. ;-;

I've never heard of them.

The thing is I can see what it should look like in my head (the same with writing, oddly enough) and there's definitely a clear picture/style, but then it doesn't want to come out on paper. But I can probably manage to find some opportunities to do that, if only with random stuff around town or in my room.

I can't write, or I've been having problems with writing, and I figure that I might as well try art while I'm waiting for the words to come back. But I'll be sure to scan in whatever I draw and post it here or in the writing journal- probably in the writing journal, since that's the creative dumping ground, and I'll see what happens from there.

lmao i just blew $10 on two notebooks the other day x_x

art is... an investment. LOL. but yeah, michael's is annoyingly expensive, and the only place to get cheap materials around here is san francisco.. because stores actually have to compete lol. but that's like an hour from where i live so in the end i just buy from michael's, or aaron brothers (but that's super expensive too! ):< ).

charcoal and pencil are my favorite things XD i can't paint to save my liiife. if you keep drawing then you'll definitely find your own style :> i want to see what you make too! haha ♥

dsflkhadg what is it about notebooks/stationary that is just so irresistible *A* I have so many just. Sitting there that I want to use but just can't.

Maybe you can do a quick search online for other art stores in your area THAT ARE NOT MICHAEL'S? XD

Haha XD I love colors but in most art classes they always make you start off without it, so there's good reason in choosing to get those first. I actually wish I were better at black and white stuff :\
I'D LOVE TO SEE WHAT YOU COME UP WITH :D
