Time for some news everyone!
Summer was recently in Australia for Supanova, an anime/manga/comic/sci-fi/general fannish convention. I actually had the chance to meet her =D
Here's my long-winded report about Summer, extracted from my much longer report.
I just mumbled something about no, not really, and asked her if she wouldn't mind, please, signing my picture and Firefly DVD. She said sure and asked my name, and I spelt it. She had to ask twice, though, as most people do. But, happy days, I wasn't as quiet as I was with Jewel. I guess standing half-naked negates much other embarrassment. Also, I asked her what her favourite and least favourite costumes were. She thought for a little while, and said her favourite was the pink dress and shawl/vest combo in Objects in Space was her favourite as it was so comfortable. Her least favourite (which answered very quickly) was the bodysuit in Serenity. She campaigned Joss for something else to wear, but he wouldn't hear any of it.
I got the feeling (throughout the whole con, actually, with all the stars) she wanted to chat more, to each fan, but her line was so huge and I thanked her again and again and said I didn't want to hold up the line and hurried/shimmied away.

Soon it was time for Summer's panel. Karlee skipped off to watch the cosplay comp, and Sarah and I settled in for Summer. Ahhh, Summer. There were really good questions, and thankfully not all Firefly/Serenity-focused, as I love hearing about all her other projects. Somebody actually mentioned The 4400, and the build up to the question was great. It was basically, 'so, you were in an unfortunately fatefully doomed show, where you had a great character and blah blah blah', and it really sounded as though he was going to finish on Firefly. But no, it was Tess! Summer said she was very lonely in Vancouver at the time, and she felt it brought something to the character. I asked about Knights of Badassdom, and she said she's playing a fellow LARPer the boys meet up with. She talked a little of her dancing days, and somebody actually asked if she was a 'scruncher' or a 'folder'. I loved Summer's face- she went bug-eyed, looked about, and everybody was just cracking up, and asked very quietly 'what does that mean??'. Oh, Summer. Somebody finally called out, 'toilet paper!' and Summer went red and finally said, 'thankfully you'll never know'.
Afterwards, I hurried to line up for my photo with Summer. I didn't realise I had to pay, as I thought it was part of my Whedonverse ticket, but lololol I had to. However, the person running the line didn't realise that, either, so I got a free photo! I asked Summer for a hug, if that was okay with her, and she said yes. SQUEE! She is so tiny. Her hands are just... so small and delicate. She's very fine-fingered. And I don't know if she got her mole cut off entirely. Maybe it was just, I don't know, shaved back? There's a little discolouration where it is/was, but it doesn't look like a scar. Just an, uh, observation. When I was about to leave, she said my costume was beautiful, bawwww.
I managed to take some photos, which you can find
here in my LJ scrapbook. You can also find mine, as long with a heap of others over at

Summer's so wonderful, and if you ever get a chance to meet her- do! For those of you who live in Toronto, Canada, you might just get a chance-
because she'll be heading there! That's right, Summer will be at FanExpo Canada, from August 27 - 29. She'll be appearing along with William Shatner, Felicia Day, James Marsters and Michael Dorn.
Speaking of William Shatner, Summer has said she would like to meet him. With FanExpo, she will finally get this chance.
In an interview with SciFi.com.au, Summer told of her love for Shatner, as well as Star Trek, bankers, growing older and visiting Australia. You can check it out
here.
So, moving onto her roles, Hadley Klein, director of Good Morning Rabbit, has released another scene of the show. It's... peculiar. But it has Summer!

On another director note, Knights of Badassdom director, Joe Lynch, has been updating his
blog with images from set. So far none of Summer have emerged (possibly because she's been over in Australia doing cons), but keep an eye on it.
Alternatively, you could take some pictures yourself. Knights of Badassdom wants extras!
The filming will also require lots of local extras, including as many LARPers (with or without costume) as producers can find.

And onto something completely different, Summer is... SUPERGIRL! Well, animated Supergirl, anyway. She's lending her voice to the next animated Superman/Batman movie as Kara, Superman's cousin. Executive producer, Bruce Timm, had this to say about Summer:
"It was a fun part for her to play because it wasn't one-note," Timm says. "She could be young and bratty, like a typical teenager, and then show a little bit more maturity, then get feisty, then scared. She's got quite a gamut of emotions to act out."

TV guide website.
