when you meet a person, what are the first things you try to find out about them? my friend asked me this a couple of weeks ago. i had never thought that there were specific things i wanted to know about people right away but as we were talking i realized the answer was very clear. i like to know people's queer status. i also really like knowing ( Read more... )

hm- i think i like to know about whatever art they make, which i guess means i pre-suppose that everyone is some sort of artist. i like to hear about people's artistic projects, the thing they're most passionate about. i also like to know about their favorite books, & why. & of course queer status comes up, though if someone is awesome i just assume they're some sort of queer.

I totally do the same thing. Subconsciously, I'm thinking, "Well, obviously, you're too rad to be straight."

yeah, i think i do that too. i also, find, though, and totally problematically, that i have a hard time knowing how to interact with people before i know the deal. though the politics are much more important than the identification.

favorite books is definitely key. i am always much more smitten with a person who can talk about or recommend something exciting.
