can you tell that a tv is on by the ringing sound that comes from it. in other words, if your eyes were closed and the sound was on mute, could you tell whether the tv was on or off? i'm asking because i can (so well that at my old house, which had a really old tv, i could tell that the tv was on before i even opened the front door) and toby can't ( Read more... )

yes, i can too. in fact, when i hear that sound from something else, i sometimes think the tv is on in the other room.

I can't always. But I can almost always detect when it ceases. Does that make sense? Like, I might not "hear" it when it's happening, but as soon as the TV is turned off, I'll notice the absence of the buzz and probably sigh in relief.

that does make sense.

toby and i sat around for a good ten minutes while i had him close his eyes and turned the tv on and off. he heard no difference.
