13-year-old Rachel gets her first period at school. Up to you what comes next.

I don't want to hijack, and I second this prompt all over the place. Seriously, SOMEONE FILL THIS, because if someone wrote about Rachel wearing something white and spending the day not knowing why people were laughing at her, and only finding out almost at the end of the day, realizing that no one liked her enough to tell her? OMG, that would be a great fic, and that was what I wanted to write.

It didn't come out that way. (Linked because I'd feel bad posting a complete non-fill here and getting your hopes up - seriously no angst to be found, just a lot of crack)

She was sitting in English class when she first felt it. Rachel frowned; it felt like she needed to go to the bathroom and hadn’t quite gotten there in time. She stared down at her notebook, worrying. Mr. Bayes was really strict and wouldn’t let anybody out early ( ... )

Her dad was brought to her about an hour after she first called him. Her crying had dwindled off, but she hadn’t moved from the bed. Kneeling beside her, her dad first felt her forehead, then gently pulled her upright ( ... )

This is really good so far, but blood will stain completely unless you use cold water. It's the mistake most girls make the first time.

What?! I'm 21 and I never knew that! Why don't they teach us that things the same time they teach us how to use pads and tampons? Stupid school...

Huh, they did teach it in my school. It was part of the fifth grade lecture on periods and stuff. Of course, half the girls already had their periods by the time we watched the video, but, "always wash bloody panties in cold water to get the blood out" was something they told us.

LOL. I think I've blocked out everything they tried to teach us in fifth grade lectures about periods and body parts and everything else. *laughing*

All I really remember is that they kicked the boys out of the classroom for the hour to talk to us girls about everything (probably because they knew the boys wouldn't be able to handle sitting there listening to stuff about girls without getting really inappropriate, LOL). I also recall sitting in the back of the classroom with my friend Jenny, both of us rolling our eyes and making remarks under our breath because our MALE teacher was trying to tell us about periods and cramps and all that comes with it (when we both already had our periods and didn't need the reminder and knew that he really didn't have a clue what it's like).

It was after dinner (she passed, not wanting to give up on the excuse of an upset stomach) before she finally emerged. Rachel bit her lip, trying to decide who to talk to. She needed to get some ‘supplies’. Slowly making her way down the stairs, she turned into the living room. Her dad was there, watching TV ( ... )

I had a similar problem, only I was 10 and at home. My first period consisted of me freaking out (screaming, crying, you name it I probably did it). My mom was a big help to me and she told me what I would have to do from that point on.

And seriously, being only 10 and having that happen before almost every other girl did not make me comfortable in my own skin. But I've gotten over it for the most part.

What I'm saying is that I enjoyed this fill. Thank you author!

Her first reaction is based mostly on how I reacted: I was 11 and in school. When I was writing it I realized how much having my mom helped - but I still didn't tell her why I came home until that night. Thank you as well :) I'm glad you enjoyed it!

This was great! I get terrible cramps, so whenever I see cramps mentioned in a fic, I imagine them worse than what's probably implied. But it made me feel ten times worse for Rachel. )=

I was laughing at Rachel's explanation to her father though. 'Menstrual Cycle' and 'sanitary napkin'? Oh Rach. XD

Well, it was going to be either menarche or menstrual cycle but I didn't think she'd know the former :) Thanks!

Great story; I think you did do Rachel justice. :)
At least she was smart and used toilet paper... like I totally did when I was eight! *cough*
