Blaine, Secrets, 9/11

Okay, so this is obviously inspired by another prompt, but I'm sorry if this offends anyone!
New Directions is always hosting all of these performances where all of the parents are invited. Of course, most can't come to every single one of them, but they do show up for most of them.
Rachel wonders why Blaine's parents never show up, and discusses it with the group, all of them thinking that Blaine is having issues with his parents because he is gay.

Just a question, OP. Blaine would have been about 5 or 6 when his parents died, obviously not old enough to raise himself. Who are his guardians? Older siblings, relatives, foster care? And is there any particular reason they don't come to his events?
(Just wondering about details that could help a potential filler out)

I've always imagined that Blaine lives with his homophobic uncle that doesn't really recognize that Blaine exists (ignorance is bliss and all that jazz)...

Oh I feel that way a lot, as well!
One time I went back to my high school to visit my old art teacher and we were talking about how young the kids were, and my teacher said "Watch this." Then she turned to the class and said "Who here remembers 9/11? Like the actual day." Not a single one. This was a few years ago! Imagine going now. I highly doubt they remember as far back as before we were in war.

In reality, Blaine's parents died in 9/11.
New Directions finds out.
