long-lost twins reuniting; (barely) future!fic, KurttigriswolfJanuary 15 2012, 01:56:33 UTC
His whole life, Kurt Hummel has felt like something was missing. At first, he thought it was his mother; then, true friends, and after that, a soulmate.
But even after glee, even after Blaine - something is still missing.
And then he walks into his first class at NYU (interior decorating) and sees a boy with his face, wearing ratty jeans and a sloganed T-shirt and reading glasses (Kurt only ever wears his when he has a headache from reading).
Differences include fashion sense and musical tastes; Kurt’s brother loves baseball and has been playing since t-ball, and he sings for fun but it’s never been his whole life. He grew up in a big city, was popular, and dated boys all through high-school. He wants to be an engineer.
They like the same foods, have the same sense of humor, and the same taste in boys.
Kurt finally realizes what’s been missing. Now he has to call his father and ask why he was never told he had a twin.
Kurt was used to it, used to the gnawing empty place in his heart that he could never quite fill. It wasn't a lack of good friends, because it was still there when he found Mercedes and Rachel. It wasn't a lack of a romantic love, because it was still there when he and Blaine fell in love. He thought it might have been the loss of his mother, but Carole's presence in his life didn't help the feeling at all, despite how much Kurt loved her.
When Kurt didn't get into NYADA, but NYU instead, he wondered if pursuing a design degree instead of performing arts was a misstep in his quest to fill that void in his heart. He was wrong.
Being a freshman in New York City was the most exciting thing to ever happen in Kurt's life. He texted Blaine constantly with little tidbits about what he was doing and seeing and even smelling! And class hadn't even started yet! His first class was Freshman writing, and while Kurt thought it superfluous, given his obvious skills in the area, the books he'd had to buy for the class looked intriguing.
I grew up with the Lindsay Lohan version to, and never saw the Hayley Mills one but even if i did Nostilgia Filter would stay make LL's my fav. It was back before she went crazy and join the long list of child celebrties to end up with destroyed lives.
Anywho! Great start here, I can't wait to read more!
People had started filing into the room for the next class, so Kurt linked his arm with Kevin's and led him from the room, saying, "You'd better not have class right now, because we're getting coffee at the cart downstairs and you're going to tell me everything about you."
"Well, I was going to go find the library," Kevin said, shuffling along next to Kurt in his loose (oh, god why?) sandals, "but I like your plan better."
Kevin ordered his latte with hazelnut flavoring instead of caramel, but otherwise they were roughly the same, and the two of them sat at a table near the cart.
Kurt began his questions by asking, "Who did you grow up with?"
"My mom. You?"
"My dad, Burt Hummel," Kurt replied. "And my mom. She died when I was seven."
"I never had a dad," Kevin said softly, taking a sip of his coffee. "Mom said he died when I was little."
Kurt wanted to ask if he and Kevin looked anything like Kevin's mom, but he suspected they didn't. Kurt's mom, on the other hand... He didn't, though. Instead, he cleared his throat a little and asked

Kurt thought for a long while about putting off calling his father, but he's just so curious about the circumstances that led to him and Kurt being separated. Could Kurt's parents not afford twins, so they put Kevin up for adoption? Was Kurt's mom not his biological mom, even if Kurt always looked at her picture and told himself all the ways he resembled her?
Wincing at all the possibilities, Kurt made the call to his father, only to be waylaid by an aide, "Whom shall I say is calling, ma'am?"
Sighing in frustration, Kurt told the lady, "This is Kurt, his son. It's an emergency, so if you could have him call me back immediately..."
"I'll see what I can do, Mr. Hummel," the woman replied, her tone implicating that she still wasn't convinced that Kurt was who he said he was. "Please stay on the line."
Falling back onto his dorm room bed, Kurt sighed noisily, but did as instructed. After a few minutes of hold music, Kurt decided he might as well get started with the reading that had been assigned in class today. Soon he was so engrossed
