When she was dating Burt, Carole had thought that the closeness that Kurt and Burt shared was really sweet. To be honest she was a little jealous of the bond that the two of them shared. Great start to a fill for a wonderful prompt!

I love that there are no "villains", that each behaviour makes sense from that person's POV and in light of their history. And that even the thoughtless or petty things (I recently rewatched 1x16 Home with Kurt's egomaniac speech at the family dinner at Breadsticks and his horrible and condescending quip about Carole's new jeans: "a welcome change". Ouch.) are human flaws - not signs of being ever so evil.

Thanks! I was really attracted by this great promt from the first time that I saw it.

I think that the main reason that I liked it was that there are no villains. It's just the hard work of four people building a new family. And some times people do get their feelings hurt. Some times people are jealous. But that's alright, your feelings just happen and you have to deal with them.

I actually have several more pages written and hope to get at least one more update posted today. It's already almost 3000 words and I'm not to Carole's big freakout so I think that it's going to be fairly long.

Saturday morning Carole hummed quietly to herself as she finished the egg white omelets and bran muffins. She was still adjusting to the diet that Burt needed for his heart health. Not to mention the fact that Burt despised almost everything that she fixed and longed for all the foods that he was being denied. But Carole had found a bunch of new recipes that the girls at work swore by and she hoped that he would like them ( ... )

After that weekend Carole was a little ashamed of how she was feeling about Kurt. He was a really great kid that was very responsible and helped out without being asked. But not even knowing all of Kurt's good qualities could change her feelings towards him ( ... )

All those little things adding up for Carole... Still love your fill, your writing is very nuanced, even in those short installments, and believable regarding the family-dynamic!

This is a really cool story. I can understand her frustration at how Kurt and Burt act towards each other in a way that leaves her out. And how she can rationalize everything for how innocent it really is. But all these little things will build up to be big things.

Really looking forward to more.
