Oh, maybe I'm sensing the tiniest bit of hope. Or is it just wishful thinking?

I used to make oatmeal-honey cookies. Maybe I should break out the recipe again.

Er. I don't know where this came from, but have commentfic. It somehow morphed into 'let's write sad-baby-Kurt-and-Daddy-Burt and cookies', and here y'go, 1800 words later.

The Tiniest Bit of HopeBurt shut the door silently as he padded out to the garage, ratty bathrobe complimenting the shuffling slippers as he sat down in the old armchair and pulled out a beer from the box hidden behind the overstuffed chair

Unconsciously and caught in memory, Kurt ended up in the kitchen and at the table, pulling down the old book and sifting through the pages to his favourite recipe of all. Kurt’s tears threatened to make a reappearance, realizing that Mommy wasn’t going to be ‘always there’ anymore. His little chin wobbled for a second before he jutted it out and resumed pulling out ingredients. Turning back, he almost knocked over a chair in order to get to the oven and preheat it

Five minutes, he stared down at that tray and remembered, lost about a year back when he had just gotten home from work and was attacked by his son and his wife, both hugging him. Kurt chattered a mile a minute about his day, while Kate just kissed his cheek softly and laughed with their son as he described school

Wow! What a hopeful story! I'm so proud of little Kurt for making those cookies because that's what he wanted to do. I guess that's how our big Kurt is, too. The memory at the end, where Kurt says they made cookies to make Burt happy, makes me wonder, too, if part of his motive making cookies now wasn't just to remember his mother and cheer himself up, but also to cheer his father up.

Lots of loving feelings right now.
