FOX Japan going all-out for Glee too! Japan DVD details.

Oct 20, 2010 19:23

Seems like the hype for Glee isn't only big in the United States. FOX Japan is also putting some extra budget on promoting Glee in Japan. Right now Glee is only being broadcasted with subtitles on the Fox JP channel that's only available on Japan cable TV, but it's already slowly gaining a fanbase here! They just recently announced details on the upcoming Japan edition DVDs and also revealed who will be lending their voices for the Japanese dub. And when there's dub, that means chances of it getting aired on national Japan TV in the future is also higher.

Fans of Japanese games and anime might recognize some familiar big names here. ;)

Will Schuester: Toshiyuki Morikawa
Sue Sylvester: Yukari Nozawa
Emma Pillsbury: Noriko Hidaka

Finn Hudson: Daisuke Ono
Rachel Berry: Maaya Sakamoto
Quinn Fabray: Nana Mizuki

Yes, that's the Kuroshituji II trio over there. I love Maaya and Mizuki so I couldn't stop myself from flailing here. So far they haven't announced on whether the musical parts of the show will be dubbed too or not, and whether or not they should is another debate on its own and I don't want to get into that (I've already read enough arguments in Japanese forums). But the fact that 3 of the cast so far are also legit singers and 2 of them have proven before that they can sing makes you wonder if they're gonna sing on the show too, huh? (But I kinda doubt they would)

Details on the DVD release:

glee/グリー 踊る♪合唱部!? vol. 1 (Amazon Japan link)
Episode 1 to 4 included. Rental price is 1490 yen (US$18.35).
Release date: January 7th, 2011. Rental in local stores also starts on same day.

glee/グリー DVD Collector's Boxset (Amazon Japan link)
Disc 1 is excluded. Each disc has 2 episodes x 9 discs. Rental price is 15120 yen (US$186.20 IKR WTF??)
Release date: February 4th 2011.

The official Japanese website also just opened today. Although there aren't much contents yet besides trailers, with help from Amazon Japan, they have the first episode online for free with Japanese subtitles. If you've been wanting to introduce the show to Japanese friends, now's the right time. ;)

Besides that, there's also a very short preview of Will's Japanese voice here. The site will force you on a 24 final season commercial first but you can just click the "Skip and Enter" button to skip. Then click on that small Glee thumbnail and a small clip will pop up, along with a trailer (with original voices). I have to say Will's voice is too deep but, well, this tends to happen in dubs anyway...

This may not mean much to most of the fandom but I figured some of you may be anime geeks like me and would appreciate the news a bit, so. :) And I got very confused with the tags so hope nothing's wrong!

There's also a short preview of Mizuki voicing Quinn here! (from 1:00)

Thanks to donkey_code for the link!!
Apparently voice-recording production started back in May. You can also catch a glimpse of ep 5's script book there. You'd be wondering why Mizuki's alone there but it could be a rehearsal session.

FOX Japan also put up a photo showing how a full recording session looked like.

Aaaaand they just confirmed that the songs are undubbed. Oh well.
