Today my license plates got stolen off of my car.  People in CT are retarded and I can't wait to leave.  The worst part is the scam the DMV is pulling in this whole process.

You don't have to pay for new plates if they get stolen.  But the police station doesn't write up police reports for 3 days.  And you can't drive without plates.  See what I'm ( Read more... )

Could you ask about temporary permits just to get to the DMV? That you can't get the police report is a little weird to me.

I already went to the DMV, just drove without plates. it was fine. I can get a police report but not until it's written, so probably Monday. It's just a matter of paying $25 for plates or getting them free.

what? that's ridiculous. they must be waiting to see if something happens with the plates or something. that makes no sense at all.

ct. cops are very funny about certain crimes. i had my car broken into in hartford, window broken, stereo stolen. the cops wouldn't even come down, but they did give me a case number over the phone. i think then i had to go pick up the reports, but they insurance just needed the number.

where were you?

if you end up with any subsequent ticktets, fight them.

ok I think I wasn't clear. The report was taken, and I got a number. But I can't get a copy of it for 3 days. Meaning I didn't have a paper copy to bring to the DMV to get my plates for free.

oh yeah, that's pretty normal. usually it doesn't really matter like in an accident case, but with the plates, that is really messed up.

Really? That's weird. We can go right to the DMV and they'll hand us license plates, so, probably that's why they don't let you go without them. The cop just told me I'll get pulled over or towed without plates on the car.
