Via this entry at Reasonable Deviations (actual puzzle posed - and I assume invented - by Pierre Dangauthier):

In a bag, there are all the pieces of a complete squared jigsaw puzzle of size NxN. You are just allowed to pick Q pieces, one at a time, without replacements. After having seen the Q pieces, what is your estimate of N? With which ( Read more... )

Had some trouble getting this one to post correctly? Not to worry, it happens to all of us. But you might consider deleting the entries that didn't work right... :-)

Thanks Bob, but actually that was really weird. When I posted it initially, it never showed up as more than one post.
