Boy, they aren't kidding about the "fandom madness" aspect of the
Steel Cage Match at
winter_baby's journal. I didn't think I could possibly care that much about TV characters--especially not for shows I wasn't terribly devoted to or never watched, some of which are long off the air

Hah! I love your icon. I can only imagine that people haven't been spamming Jensen comms and forums, or Alec would be doing far better, and Dean would be beating Angel even more severely. ;)

Seems like a fair number of Boreanaz fans were hoping for an Angel/Booth showdown (which would have been impossible to make happen, seeing as they're in different brackets, on opposite sides, so that would have been a final).

This round by far I'm most surprised about Joan (who beats everyone in everything in my book) but that probably goes - as you said - to fan base. My most disappointing is Chloe Sullivan losing to Veronica Mars. I like Veronica and all, but Chloe is tops for me.

I was pretty amazed at Chloe's winning her first round against Brooke Davis. I'm not a Smallville watcher, so I don't know much about Chloe--beyond the fact that Smallville fandom loves her (and someone has been slashing her with Dean for years).
I wasn't shocked by those two defeats in the first rounds, because those fandoms are tiny. Supporters of both those characters are quite devoted and vocal, though!

Very true, although I was using "shocked" more as "OMG I think they're iconically brilliant characters so it's surprising more folks don't feel the same." That sort of thing! =D
I'm wondering if Don would have had more of a chance than Joan in the actual rounds if he'd won the prelims. (well, the same could be said for several who lost in the prelims)

The funny thing is, it's all so meaningless, yet so absorbing! LOL

I have to admit that, even though I have Dean picked to win in the pool, when it came down to it, my gut said Angel, and I voted for him instead.
Spike vs. Pacey is a tough decision, and I hesitated before picking Spike, but, well, he's Spike. How can he not end up in the Final Four?
The one that makes NO SENSE to me is the overwhelming popularity of Chandler Bing. Just, seriously. Him?
I was also surprised by GOB just sweeping the prelims. I mean, I like GOB, but I had NO IDEA he was that popular with fangirls, and he wasn't even in the running for my Arrested Development vote. (I briefly considered Michael, then decided it was actually a tough decision between Lindsay and Lucille and went for Lindsay because I was so impressed by Portia's acting on my last watching of the series.)

I think part of why I had to pick Angel over Dean is that I loved Angel so much on his own show compared to Angel on Buffy, where I found him kind of uninteresting and annoying. And I have to admit that I love big dramatic scenes in the rain and I loved Faith, so "Five by Five" is probably my favorite Angel ep.
I think there's enough fangirl love for Spike to carry him to the Final Four.
Huh. I don't know. I guess there are some places where I'm just not like other fangirls, and the Chandler love is one of them. I mean, he's less annoying than Ross and Rachel, but I think Phoebe was my favorite character, and some of Joey's bits rival Chandler's for funny.
I've become more of a fan of AD since it's on Hulu. I'm rewatching the whole thing for the third time in about six months, and it still surprises me with how funny I find it.
