This will be spoilerific. I haven't rewatched yet, but I've seen some other people's reactions, and it's made me examine my own discomfort. ( Some thoughts. )
I think everything that got mocked totally & completely deserved it, whether it's batshit fans, bad writing, or the Wincest thing. And if people are offended by that, then maybe they might want to rethink why they're watching the show & in the fandom.
I thought the mockery was hilarious, truly. I was also sort of shocked because I don't believe slash has ever been discussed on television before. For me, that was discomfiting, not least of which because my little sister was sitting right next to me asking whether people really right Sam/Dean.
I think people like to get offended, and are being very hypocritical if they think that there's some law that you don't mention fandom outside of fandom. I mean, that may be a code most fandomers live by, but Kripke and his minions aren't bound by it (if, indeed, anyone in fandom is). I really sort of love the irony of slashers getting up in arms about how they are portrayed on television, when many of them have no qualms about how they portray characters/actors in fic. You either approve it all or you condemn it all.
Honestly, I am finding fandom's serious hissy fit amusing--but not as amusing as the mockery was. But that doesn't mean I didn't also recognize the sting.
The fandom throwing a hissy fit only serves to reinforce the very stereotypes that were mocked in the episode. *g* Just sayin'.
Uh, also, are you ever going to post anything that's NOT spn related? Or fandom related? You haven't been around in forever, at least, not anywhere where I've seen you.
Maybe. It's been an egregiously bad several months in my world, though there does appear to be some light coming at the end of the tunnel. However, I thought that before and things managed to get even worse, so I couldn't really handle going into it all here.
I miss you desperately, and if you'd like to chat sometime, I'm all for it, but I am in need of the escape from my daily life here at the moment, so I'm sort of imposing a no-more-talking-about-life-shit on my journal for the time being.
