With the Astoria being demolished to make way for the Crossrail link, I thought I'd post a few memories of the place as naturalbornkaos and jonny_eol have already done.

First gig:
2001: A Metal Odyssey festival featuring Dimmu Borgir, Lacuna Coil, In Flames, Nevermore and Susperia, April Fools Day, 2001. I was living in York at the time but had come down for the Inkubus

I went to my first goth club there 'the cross' many years ago (old fart that i am) and heard 'bela legosi' for the first time there.

i was also told (at the cross) about this club i would like called 'slimlight'

i saw the sisters there (early 90's),the damned (many times), the fuck reading punk festival ...

it's sad that its gone, but as a venue to be honest is sucked.

to me the astoria = good memories.

That was a good gig, I like both bands very much, though as you intimate they don't have much in common...
