It's official! Leigh and I are going to the 2006 Backspace Conference for writers. It's in just over two weeks, there will be agents and editors everywhere, and it's in NYC. She's flying into my house and we're taking the train into the city

That is amazingly cool!! So bloody cool!! So brilliantly cool!!! So... I'll stop now. =)

Word of advice: Schmoozing up the author is good, but always rememebr to schmooze up to the guy holding everyone's bags too, if not, instead. The author only knows so much about the business, but if you're nice to the small people, they will usually report back to their publishers with tales about a lovely girl who wowed them with their up and coming novel. In other words: Connection City.

Ah and that's why we're doing to the convention, but we're schmoozing with EVERYONE. The particular author has an agent that accepts refferals from his client and is 10 times more likely to accept the manuscript of reffered writers, according to his website.

There's only so much contact you can get with agents and editors when you don't live in NYC :P YOu have to pay big money (the freaking conference is 300 dollars) to get to mingle with the powerful people haha.
