My dearest Pippin, Diamond wrote in her journal. I hope that you are home and safe. I have heard no word from you since receiving your letter in Mirkwood, all those weeks ago. I feel as if I have lived an entire lifetime since then. The elves in Rivendell said that you did not stop there, and they had no news of you. I hope to hear more new of you

Iolaus hated good-byes. Hated them with a passion. He wasn't very good at them, especially when bidding farewell to someone he'd grown to like as much as the cheerful little hobbitess. They'd been through a lot together in their journey through her country of Middle Earth, but now it was time to go their separate ways. They had met at the Prancing Pony those many weeks ago and here they would part.

"I hate goodbyes," Iolaus confessed as he stood with Joxer beside Diamond's little Pony. "It's been a joy getting to know you, Diamond. Thanks for letting me tag along on your adventure. I know it's not likely -- not with you going home to your Shire and me back to Greece -- but I hope we'll have a chance to meet again some day." He stooped down on one knee and embraced her. "I'm going to miss you," he said softly.

"I'm going to miss you too," Diamond replied, hugging the man warmly. "It's been a joy sharing my journey with you. There were many times that I fear I might have perished from fear or loneliness were it not for you! I only wish that my husband had been here to meet you, now. You two would have gotten along famously, I'm sure. If you're ever back in these parts, do send word and I will be sure to bring my family along to see you."

"I hope that your journey home is a pleasant one! Goodbye!"

Diamond waved farewell to Iolaus and Joxer and then flicked the reins lightly to get the cart moving. Plum stepped foreward very brightly. He had made this particular journey many times before. Like Diamond, the pony was eager to get back to the Shire. They would be home in no time!
