Oh, Diamond! I'm so sorry I couldn't catch you earlier, I've just now arrived in Mirkwood, with Merry, of course. Everything is so dark! It's quite a good thing that Merry's one for the woods. Diamond, that dragon, there's something about him...and after Bilbo's tales, perhaps you should come home, sweetheart. Wait for me, please, at least wait for me. I miss you.

Just as Diamond felt that she had reached the end of her reserves of courage and hope, the little thrush that she had dispatched with her message to Pippin fluttered down to settle on her arm. It was clutching a scrape a paper in its claws. She unfolded it and saw that it was her own message come back to her. And scrawled across it, written in handwriting that she knew as well as her own, was written the words, Wait! I am coming!

Diamond clutched the message against her heart and burst into tears of joy.

A deer flashes across the path, followed by a group of hunters on horseback, intent on their prey. After a moment, the hunter who brought up the rear of the group re-emerges from the forest.

Many years has it been since Periannath came to these lands. Who are you and what business brings you here?

He's dressed in simple hunting clothes, a dark unadorned green tunic and dark trousers, his hair braided from his face. He speaks in the common tongue, though his words are heavily accented.

I am Diamond Took, of the Shire. These are my companions, iolaus_lj and trickster_loki. We are traveling through these woods on our way to the Iron Mountains and the Withered Heath. I have business there.

When introduced, Iolaus nods a greeting but says nothing, more than happy to let Diamond be their spokesperson. He does, however, keep a close eye on the company in case the fair greeting should take a turn for the worse.
