On the Care and Feeding of Unexpected Visitors

Mar 13, 2004 16:28

Diamond wrote in her journal. I cannot express to the others how distressed I was to hear that the stranger we encountered on the edges of Mirkwood forest had a Nazgul's ring. The other stranger, the Maia that appeared to help us, said that Isildur's Bane had returned, but that simply cannot be. Perhaps some other evil Maia has created his own ring ( Read more... )

*returns, much more casually dressed than he was before, stretching and yawning*

Hey. *looks around, frowns* Is there somewhere I can take you? The whole, middle-of-the-forest thing? Probably not the best of places to be.

Hello again! *delighted to see the mysterious but helpful Maia* You know, I was just thinking the same thing! Much as I wish I were back in the Shire, I think that this poor fellow *nods at the still sleeping Joxer* would be much better off in Rivendell. The elves there could take care of him very nicely, indeed! It will take us several days of travelling on foot to get there. The last time Iolaus and I entered Mirkwood, we were attacked by a warg. I'm not sure that Joxer is up to dealing with a warg, much less the horrible huge spiders that live in Mirkwood.

Yeah, giant spiders are a pain in the-- Wargs in Mirkwood? *frowns* I didn't think they were forest things. *shakes head* Uh, yeah, I can do Rivendell. Got all your things packed and together?

I was quite shocked to see a warg in the forest as well! We had just come from The Carrock, and it had been quite overrun by orcs and wargs. Something terrible is happening in the north! I think perhaps that an orc scout with a warg must have followed us into Mirkwood.

Well, we are almost all ready. *looks around for iolaus_lj. Let me make sure that he is ready.***

[OOC: Iolaus-mun is out but will be back later this evening. If you want to do something here, I'm sure you don't need to wait. Whenever we end up at Rivendell, we are going to pick up the story with and whoever else might be around Rivendell.]

but this thing cannot be Isildur's Bane, for that accursed ring was utterly destroyed.

Are you sure it stayed destroyed?

*surprised to see that someone else has suddenly joined them*

Indeed, I am certain of it. Isildur's Bane was utterly destroyed. And more than that! We all felt the passing of Sauron, even those of us as far away as the Shire. The ring was his. It was the only thing holding him to this world. When the Ring was destroyed, Sauron lost his hold on Middle Earth and passed on.

*eyes the stranger with a quizzical expression* What is your interest in this Ring?

*looks back at you*

That wasn't the question. What I asked was 'are you sure that it stayed destroyed?'
I'm not doubtin' that it was destroyed. I'm just doubtin' that it stayed destroyed, is all.

An' my interest? It seems t' be pestering Buffy an' Lou.

Of course it stayed destroyed! What a strange question to be asking! A kinsman of mine destroyed it, and at great cost to himself, I may add. He destroyed it in the very fires in which Sauron forged it! Both it and its maker were utterly destroyed. The ring cannot exist without its maker, and Sauron is gone.

*puzzled* Who is...Bufianloo?

Glorfindel entered the healing house with Joxer cradled in his arms and Iolaus in tow. Laying him gently on a bed, he called orders quietly to the elf nearby, making the young man comfortable, covering him with a blanket and getting a chair for Iolaus to sit in and placing it nearby but out of the way of where the healers would work. "Come, my friend and sit. There is little to be done until Lord Elrond sees him."

Iolaus does as bidden, now looking more concerned as he sees Joxer lying there, looking quite helpless. "Is he going to be alright, d'ya think?"

Iolaus did exactly as Lord Elrond instructed, filling a bowl with water and carefully crushing the leaves he'd been given into the liquid. He gently propped Joxer up a bit by putting pillows behind his back and head, then slipped an arm under his shoulders to raise him a bit more for the first dose. Then very very carefully, he fed a few drops of the mixture to the still soundly sleeping Joxer.

Then he waited, anxiously watching Joxer and hoping for some response. And waited some more, until the next hour, when again he patiently repeated the procedure. Raising Joxer a bit off the pillows, his left arm as support under his shoulders, Iolaus fed him a few more drops of the medicine.

Joxer started to wake up a bit as the liquid went down his throat and sputtered a bit. He wasn't quite awake, and he didn't know where he was, or what was happening to him. His mind not yet waking for the nightmare it has been locked in for some time.

Struggling to open his eyes, he really recognizes Iolaus for the first time sense he ran into him the night before, "Iolaus?" His voice cracked.

"Hey, buddy. Welcome back," replied Iolaus, relief evident in his voice. "You had us pretty worried there for a while."

"Iolaus?" He swallowed heavilly and looked around, "What... where am I? The last thing I remember..." Joxer closed his eyes tightly and shook his head, he didn't want to remember.

*comes to have another look at his patient*

I'm Lord Elrond, the Lord and healer of this house.
How are you feeling?

Joxer looked up at Lord Elrond, "Not very well sir. Thank you for letting me stay. Don't know why you are letting me stay though..." He looked back down at the sheet.

Everyone in need is welcome in my house.
*hint of a smile*

We will get you on your feet again, even if we need a few days to do so, don't worry

*smiles at Lord Elrond and then says to Joxer* You see? Lord Elrond is the kindest and most gracious host in all of Middle Earth. You are in the safest, best place that you could possibly be.
