asdfghyjugtyju, so I lied about not reading it tonight. I made the mistake of starting reading and then I couldn't resist. My eyes are seriously killing me now but omgggggggg.
For now let me just tell you that I absolutely loved it ♥♥♥ I'll be back with some (hopefully) more substantial flailing tomorrow. (Probably only after my test-inclusive kanji classes which end at cruel 6PM ;A;)
Ahhhh, I don't know how to start so let's make it - this was so beautiful. And it's so close to Christmas that I may just treat it as (yet another!) Christmas gift and ahhhh, what a splendid present it is. ♥
You've hardly written historical AUs for Homin fandom so besides that one onmyouji fic, this and the djinn fic are my first contact with this kind of themes coming from you. It's like discovering a new flavour of your writing (even though it's not really new for you and everything is top-notch, the taste, the fragrance, the appearance. Just the way it should be in Japanese cuisine which's so fitting considering the setting here. I'm bad at metaphors but!You really paint this world, this setting so well. It's believable - the descriptions of the people, their words; and all these little things such as Changmin seeking comfort in the plum blossoms; his hairpins. It all takes the reader into the realms of 17th century Japan

And here! Finally comes me dispelling your worries about the plot twist~ I didn't think even for a second that Yunho may not be a human being, I was taken aback with surprise and I was all adsfgyujasdtgh. I think I might've even squealed? So yeah, you needn't have worried about this \o/ Although I have to admit that all these mentions of "animal" did catch my attention? I remember a split second thought of "huh, that's a bit peculiar" crossing my mind. Well, but me being me I quickly dismissed it 8D

♥♥♥ ahhhhh I'm so glad you liked this! I'm going to think of it as an 'Easter egg' fic, in that I think (hope!) it's accessible to readers who don't know that much about the time period but for those who do know, there's all kinds of references hidden all over the place :D
Oh, I like what you say about safety - yes, that's a really good way of looking at it, too. What keeps Changmin trapped also keeps him safe, and it is a really big leap of faith for him to trust Yunho. And yes, Yunho was testing him all along - I was thinking of some Heian tales where an instrument physically leaves its owner for being unworthy, and obviously Changmin is worthy because the koto keeps coming back to him, but Yunho's final test goes back to the safety theme - does Changmin love the koto because she's always been with him or will he give her up in exchange for buying his freedom?
Is "a koto player" the right answer then? And the koto itself, but since Yunho can't play Red Dappled Silk then he needs both the instrument and its player to be a happy fox

This is not "fewer", this is exactly 20. :< I hope that means that you're going to write an awesome loooooong comment after all such the challange wasn't successful anyway :<<
Darn, you saw through my cunning ruse... I was counting on glitterburn's fabled inability to understand anything to do with numbers greater than 10 and was hoping she didn't notice that I was cheating.
I have pages and pages to say about this one, but I need to read it a couple more times first.
Plus, I wanted to see your post-exam comments so I can shamelessly copy off you! I am not proud - not when it comes to stories examining the intricacies of Heian/Edo under-robe colours colours with nary a shikigami for me to coo over in a way that distracts from my general lack of any knowledge or understanding about any aspect of history.
I was desperately hoping that Yunho would turn out to be some filthy rich pirate king (doesn't make much sense, but I have a thing with pirates lately), but this is even better. Yay for happy endings! ^_^
LOL a badly-dressed pirate king, why not! Funnily enough a lot earlier in the year I wanted to write a nautical steampunk AU where Yunho was a privateer carrying off Fourth Lieutenant Changmin. But alas every time I start writing about historical ships I get too enthusiastic and all Patrick O'Brian and I don't think that's a good thing, really o__O
All lies and slander! There is no such thing as being too manic enthusiastic about historical fiction! >_>
But yes, I had this little daydream last week, where Min and Yunho were both pirates, ex-childhood friends turned rivals and endlessly trying to up one other over treasures and plunder, the UST being enough to choke the crews of both ships on it.
(Hey, my dreams have been plagued with ninjas for years, so at least pirates are a welcome change in the scenery! XD).
