fandom, what language is Erik's mother speaking at the beginning of XMFC? by which I mean, when the two of them are separated and Erik bends the gate. the English subtitles won't even give me a "(speaking [insert language])" except for the brief moment when she's speaking to a guard and it says "(speaking German)." I would say German. At least she says "Ich bitte Sie, ich bitte Sie" to the guards when they drag her away, although that's very difficult to understand because of her pronunciation.

yeah, that's the part where it says "(speaking German)" but I don't think that's the language she's using when she's calling to Erik. I have a passing knowledge of German myself and I recognised it there but not in any of the other dialogue.

If it's another language, Yiddish is the only one that makes sense to me because being from Düsseldorf they would be native German speakers. However, her German pronunciation is so bad, even when speaking calmly, that I would say all bets are off when it comes to screaming in agony.

It's got to be either German or Yiddish. If you have a passing knowledge of German and that's not what it sounds like, then I think Yiddish is a pretty good bet.
