Confessions of a cash-wise queen

Aug 21, 2006 00:25

My mom and I hit a bunch of garage sales today. We're whores for a good bargain and we can sniff out the wheat from the chaff of garage sale garbage. We got some good stuff and had some .

We saw a dog that was a mix between a Basset Hound and a Dachsund. lol a Basshund. It was kinda cute. Lots of people had their dogs out and there were so many cute puppies. I shoulda taken pics of em.

I think this was the first thing that caught my eye. there are two blue (crystal/glass?) decanters and an atomizer that now holds my blueberry body splash. The colors are great for my bedroom and I always thought atomizers were so much more romantical than normal perfume bottles. We got this at the sale held by the lady my mom works with.

Cost: 50 cents

There was one older guy who was having a sale that we stopped at. He was nice but some of his stuff was weird. He had two display cases full of various sizes and styles of knives and a table with a couple high powered hunting rifles on it. (Hopefully he wasnt selling to kids) Next to those, though, was this. Me likey.

Cost: $5

(we thought this was high but haggling down prices at a garage sale seemed just a little white trash)

I also got this from the old dude. A girl needs something to keep her beer cold!

Cost: $3

I got this cute butterfly earring holder thing which i desperately needed ( I know, how very femme of me) from two old ladies with absolutely nothing else worth selling or buying. *Next to it you will noticed the duckie I won at the county fair*

Cost: 10 cents

Some different old ladies, some crazy ones (one sat there rocking back and forth ((and not in a rocking chair)) watching me), had a huge sale full of cute little knickknacks and chotchkes they were trying to pass off as antiques. They had prices jacked up, but then decided that everything was half off. Had i known this, I might have looked at more of their videos. As it is, I'm happy with these, I <3 Newsies and forgot how much till about a week ago, and youknow I love the mass destruction of Deep Impact.

Cost: $1 each

The crazy ladies also had a bunch of jewelry. A lot of it was cute but they had bullshit prices on that stuff too. They wanted $15 for that puka shell necklace when I can get one for $12 at Pac Sun and they wanted $10 for an ivory ring that broke after 3 hours of wearing it (and i strongly suspect was broken before i ever laid my sticky fingers on it). The purple and white 'pearls' i also got there, the brooch came from elsewhere.

Cost: 5 finger discount

The place with the brooch has a trailer with a sign saying "Free Books". Most were not my style, military thrillers and the like, but how can I turn down free books? This one with a title straight out of a Fallout Boy song caught my eye.

Cost: a tree or two

I thought this little picture was cute. If you cant tell, there are two hearts carved into the tree next to hear. I thought it was bittersweet, which fit my mood considering who was on my mind when i bought it.

Cost: $1

This is a funky vase/candleholder thing, blue with shells imbedded. I figured it would work with the decor in either my bedroom or bathroom.

Cost: 25 cents

My Napoleon Dynamite t-shirt. I wear it with my tongue firmly in my cheek because I dont like the movie that much and, despite the shirt,... i friggin hate technology sometimes. When I'm not hating it though, I'm loving it.

Cost: 25 cents

Here are two other shirts I got that I havent tried on yet but I didnt pay for them so who the fuck cares?

Cost: 5 finger discount

Who says you can't get anything good from a Free box? In addition to these I got a mug with a lid and a pink can coolie.

Cost: zip, zilch, nada

No, we did not buy the gay Jesus. Taking a picture of this, the most unintentionally homoerotic Jesus ever, was worth the odd stares i got for doing so. the guy is even holding a dildo/buttplug.

Cost: my entrance to Heaven and my eternal soul

There is at least one other shirt I got that isnt pictured and I'm sure there are a few odds and ends I forgot to include. I wont include the stuff my mom bought, both because it would make the blog too long and i doubt anyone is interested in this, let alone my mom's purchases.

I thought of taking pictures of the stuff I got at the thrift store to show the label whores that style can come for less than $5 a garment but I was feeling lazy. Instead I think I'll include a picture of the lamp i pimped. I wish i had thought to take a before pictures so you could REALLY see the improvement. If you are wondering though, the base was a rose pink that was chipping off and the shade was a boring shape, rose pink, with a bunch of names and hearts and shapes painted on by my sister when she was a kid (you can just imagine how artistic the painting was).

Tomorrow I'm going to try for a blog with some actual merit. What I've been up to, what I'm been thinking/feeling, etc. We'll see. Depends what i end up doing. If its nice, I'll hit the beach. Later I might hit the Steele County fair or Plainview Corn days. The next blog will include some new pics of me, taken Saturday. Though you can see my new haircut and my new hat in the pics above.
