so, let's just get this out in the open...i'm a loserdork hybrid mix, and i document all my away messages in microsoft word. i'm not sure what i want to accomplish in doing this. maybe i'm secretly hoping that when (if) i die, my computer will be recovered by archeologists with those little brush things, and i will go down in history as "this girl ( Read more... )

i'm sorry, i have no knowledge of how to post them, but this post made me laugh really hard.

108 PAGES?! GOOD GOD! i guess it makes sense though, because your away msg's are like a mini diary of sorts. this way you can keep it for a long time and be able to remember just the important parts at opposed to the bs parts that a lot of people have, ya know?

heeeey! we haven't met, but i couldn't help but notice your icon and so i'm assuming you're an anthony rapp fan as well?!?

i could go on and on, but i love RENT and I MET HIM A FEW TIMES AND HAVE PHOTOGRAPHIC EVIDENCE AND AUTOGRAPHS because he played the lead in Hedwig and the Angry Inch in Pittsburgh for a summer and my friends and I stalked him. In a good way.

he and his cast mates even invited my friends and me out to celebrate after their last performance of the summer!

that's why i started doing it...because they were so in-depth each day, so it's almost like i can relive condensed versions of the real thing within an away message.

108 pages seems pretty outlandish, and i'm sometimes ashamed as the pages keep adding up. i almost printed them out over christmas just in case my computer would spontaneously implode on a given day.

your away messages are just as funny! you should kick it down on a notch on the mental todem pole and join me in saving them.

hahah i think its a lovely idea - i would love to read them! lj would be as good a place as any. maybe go trhough and pick out the top 500 or something?

1. Fire up MS Word

2. File menu -> Save As -> HTML

3. Open the newly generated HTML file in Notepad

4. Copy everything

5. Paste into your LJ-posting window.

6. Click 'send'.

i have a question about that...

say i have a code in there (i forget the technical name), will that show up on the HTML when i upload it? like if i would have the character code of a snowflake that shows up as a "T" on my word document, would it show up online as a snowflake?

get back to me on that.

i am uber interested in reading these (i too am guilty of life story away messages and i also save a vast majority of them).

i say you upload the file to a website and provide a means for us to download it onto our computer. otherwise i think adobe will allow you to upload a word document onto the net without having to mess it all up.

or you can just cleverly copy and paste. :)

a) i would read every juicy morsel. post it post it post it

b) i have a 100+ pg quote collection in word. like, semi-famous quotes or lyrics

c) just last night, my friend was like "u loooooove aim. u know u do. & u know how i know? u put SOOO much time into ur away messages, instead of just sayin "i am away from my computer right now"" -- haha so we're in the same canoe! mine are either lil 'mini-diarys,' or just a lil update on what im doin w/ an intense quote at the bottom. they are NEVER simple! go us!

d) my friends also think im weird bc when i read cool quotes or lyrics in someones profile or away msg, i IM them to myself & save the window (to sort through later & put in my 100+ pg word doc) -- i also IM myself funny quotes my friends say or IM me. (wow. im a dork. awwwesome. is *this* why im in observance of singles awareness day? haha nooo i bet it goes deeper than that)
