I do not understand violence either, and it always amazes me how girls who have so much in common can have so much conflict. I don't know what i would have done in your situation. It is so hard when proceedures are set in place, and if you step outside of them (by physically intervening) you could be either injured or somehow responsible (I fear being sued for touching the girls I work with, but the place i work is much different for sure.)

I know in the past i've had to stand between girls and stop them from fighting, but i was never 100% sure they would actually fight. In the case of students already fighting, i don't think i would know what to do. We do have height, Catherine, but not the bulk needed to get physical with these kids!

*hugs* I'm so sorry this happened. So senseless.

that's really rough. but sometimes you just have to understand that you can't always prevent it from happening. it really sucks but some things are out of your control. and i understand that the violence is a release of sorts, a visceral reaction to poor circumstances but i don't think it truly helps. also i know that the union thing sounds like a cop out because you can't break up the fight but at the same time it's there for your protection too. i mean not just physical harm but there can be other legal implications as well.
