Sweden anyone?

So I found the reading in WAC to be interesting but I wish there had been more examples outside of a Swedish context. It would have been interesting to read about students traveling in more Eastern countries. Not that I'm discounting the experiences in Sweden, I just feel that there will be many "different" kinds of conflicts in the Eastern world.

I agree with you. Eli's blog was very candid and less polished. You feel like he was really communicating his actual experiences, not just the scholarly ones. And we all are Americans. Everyone knows the system sucks...we're just too apathetic/accepting to change it. We just are.

I also think that the texts in Writing Across Culture were a little dry compared to Eli's blog. I did find Sarah's entries to be helpful for showing how your understanding and appreciation can change when you are studying abroad. It would have been good if Wagner had included more personal entries that had more emotion in them. If he had showed the sudden changes in Sarah's feelings for a new culture, it would have added another dimension to the writing.
