Wizard Wears What?

Wizard Clothes
sure it's been pondered over millions of times already, but I'm doing it once more!

Drawing some recent canon art has given me a lot of thoughts and re-thoughts on clothes, fashion and style in the HP Wizarding World.

I consulted the HP Lexicon for reference/research ( Read more... )

Handsdown the best post on wizarding clothing EVAH!

I think it would be because I live in Sydney where you have to travel further west and into the mountains for really cold weather, but I'd be sweating buckets if I wore what Snape wore on warmer days out and about.

*HEEE!!!*

Yeah, I think in the summer, he'd stick to just wearing the normal long robes and not nightie. I'd love to imagine Snape around his Spinner's End house on a stuffy humid summer day, doing some housework in his little grey, thin, short robe. HAHAH!

AHAHHAHA! Oh, there needs to be fic or a picture of this now! I can just imagine him getting the thin short robe caught on a corner whilst he dusted.

This post is so full of win! Especially love Hermione shopping at H&M. So perfect. Cheap, yet classy.

Exactly! I remember when I was in London in '05 and meandered through H&Ms. All I could think of was that none of the clothes interested me, but they'd all look SO CUTE on Hermione!

It's true! Following movie canon definitely makes things easier to draw quick, fast fanart (or perhaps write fanfic and let your mind concentrate on figuring out other things like character development and plot) in terms of the outfits. Plus, JKR's always been a bit vague; the only exception being, for some inexplicable reason, her loving multi-paragraphed description of Grawp. wtf.

But now that I'm trying to be all creative and exercise my own interpretations of things? I've been giving this a lot of thought lately. :D

AHAHAHAAH!!!!! OMG I love you! Dean!Bill and Brendon!Sirius are yours to do whatever you like! Eeee! That is so exciting!

Oh man, it would be awesome if JKR used the word tunic to describe shorter robes (if they do existed), it'd help my imagination immensely. :D

Yeah- the school uniforms make it visually easier to understand house divisions, I guess, from a movie perspective. But I don't think fanartists whould necessarily subscribe to the uniforms, either.

Tonks, Bill and the twins shopping at a wizardly-Muggle clothes shop is a VERY good point! I assumed that Tonks just charmed a Muggle t-shirt to say Weird Sisters, but I do prefer the idea of a more contemporary clothes shop. :D Yay.

This is like the best meta-y fanart-y post EVAH. And I completely agree. I used to always draw my wizards in cloaks and robes way back, but then fandom got to me, haha. But it's funnier to put them in very "wizardlike" clothes, because it makes more sense and it's interesting to draw! And the layering, like on Snape? AWESOME, and very true. I've sewn and worn medival clothes at a few occasions and those work just like that.

I love all the little sketches, too (nakes Ron! HEEE!). And Sirius looks like he stepped straight out of that 70's show, haha! <3

*hee* I do definitely think it's more fun to put them in wizardy clothes! It's so fun to try and design clothes that's distinctly wizardish and not, like, just costumes from the 18th century or something.

AHAHAH! ZOMG the whole MWPP gang as the That 70's Show gang? Best crossover, ever. :D

Thank youuuu!
